"My grandpa he's 95, he keeps on dancing he's still alive. My grandma she's 92, she loves to sing and dance some too. Come on darlin' put your pretty dress on, we're gonna go out tonight!" That's right, it's Friday night and time to dance in the weekly guitar thread!

Once again, it's time for the FNGT!

If you don't know how this works, click this link. That link will take you to another site to give you some additional information and tell you about some of our off-site features. That's also the site where we will host the weekly guitar threads, should Talk.lol go down.

NOTE: That site is by invitation only. If you want an invite, ask a regular participant (such as @Sleazy or myself)

If you already know what's going on, you probably don't need to click any of those links. You can still visit to see if any changes have been made, as that's also where we kept the archives and have a second forum.

By the way, we're down to just two of us. If you want to help, let us know.

Hello and welcome to another FNGT! Like normal, we'll go ahead and get you started. This is one from the archives - including most of the text that went with the original posting of this piece. (I have copies of all that stuff in a giant text file.) We hope you'll enjoy it just as much a second time around!

This one is called Elegant Symphony, because of the complex tones that disguise their simplicity and elementary music theory. The 'magic' is in the making, in the flourishes and syncopation that compose the melody. If you listen carefully, you'll hear diatonic scales taking the lead with an underlying rhythm that intertwines with the bass to showcase the ensemble.

Without further ado:

Elegant Symphony (EH #2 & 3; J B; B; TB #1 & P)

If that doesn't work, try this link where it's hosted on my own server.

As you can hear, I had some help from two lovely ladies and a special thanks goes to Biff for having managed to mash it all together into the music you get to hear. And this pleases me. Yes, yes it does.

Rock on, Goats! Rock on!

I love this song

It's definitely a fun one. Most of the text in my comment is from when I originally posted it. (I have most of my original posts saved in a text file, going back a whole lot of years.)

I am at a party tonight

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 4 points 1 yearApr 28, 2023 21:21:42 ago (+4/-0)

I am not. It's just Biff and I, and she's watching a movie in the media room.

[ - ] Sleazy 3 points 1 yearApr 28, 2023 21:22:22 ago (+3/-0)

I got scooped unknowingly

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 3 points 1 yearApr 28, 2023 21:27:38 ago (+3/-0)

I do not think I know what that means?

An unexpected knock on the door and they took me away!

When in doubt, get in the car.

Yep. I usually say yeah to a party

I genuinely like this. Tell Biff he mashed it together nice and stuff.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 2 points 1 yearApr 28, 2023 21:05:40 ago (+2/-0)

She, but she shall be informed of your appreciation. She's currently not in the studio with me. I have no idea what she's doing, but it's not in here with me.

Don't quote me on this, but I think she's in the kitchen. I don't think she's making anything important, but I think that's where she is. That's where she was when I last saw her and, while it's a big house, she doesn't have anything pressing to do that'd require her to be elsewhere.

I try not to think about it too much.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 1 point 1 yearApr 28, 2023 21:20:34 ago (+1/-0)

Update: I kinda hollered it down the hallway leading that direction and she didn't answer. Some noises made me realize she's in the media room and watching a movie. I just upgraded to Dolby Atmos, so that may be why.

I spend a surprising amount of time not being completely sure what's going on in my house. If you're reasonably quiet and stick to a different schedule, it could be days before I noticed someone living here. There are rooms I literally can spend months without visiting them. There are bedrooms upstairs I probably haven't entered in a year or more. I don't actually have a reason to go in them.

So, someone could time it just right and probably go days without seeing me.

What a fuckin treat. Thanks!

Glad ya liked it. We're here every Friday night, at least for the foreseeable future. We started more than five years ago, on the original Voat. We have held the thread on various other sites, but this is our current home.

To be more clear, we have no plans to move to another site.

Ha! Nice!

Sadly, you'd be surprised at how many people don't know the song. It's such a great song. If I played banjo, I'd cover it. While I own a banjo, I've never taken any formal lessons. I own a few of 'em, technically. I always plan on learning and I can fake it, I am not a banjo player.

[ - ] TheViciousMrPim 3 points 1 yearApr 28, 2023 22:20:21 ago (+3/-0)

You stole them.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 2 points 1 yearApr 28, 2023 22:56:14 ago (+2/-0)

It's too late now. They're my banjoes now.

[ - ] Clubberlang 2 points 1 yearApr 28, 2023 22:26:53 ago (+2/-0)

You should learn dueling banjos.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 1 point 1 yearApr 28, 2023 22:58:15 ago (+1/-0)

I can kinda fake it by changing where I do the actual picking. Closer to the bridge sounds more like it than not. But, I should definitely learn how to play one properly.

I caught up the archives for 2022, but I would like someone to verify my dates for the posts. The way poal work, they only give you (X) months ago for the posts.

I discovered the Waybackmachine archives were incomplete for 2022, so I archived the missing pages and verified 2021 so far.

While I didn't get anything recorded this week, I was able to get in a good hour of practice. Turns out my last attempt to repair the main amp was unsuccessful, but I still have some ideas on how to make it useful. The new practice amp sounded pretty awesome! It doesn't have channel switching or reverb, but I have a nice Metal Muff box and was able to dial in a great variety of Distortion sounds.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 3 points 1 yearApr 28, 2023 21:59:54 ago (+3/-0)

Nice! I haven't checked the forum in a while due to being otherwise occupied and there being so little activity.

I'll go through and take a look this weekend. I'll wait until I'm not sipping wine.

Thanks a zillion!

Getting in a good hour of practice is excellent. This thread does motivate practice. Even if it's "just" an hour, that's an hour more than you might have otherwise done. I prefer to 'practice with deliberation'. That is, I have a goal to practice certain skills instead of just mindlessly noodling on the guitar, playing songs and riffs I've played a thousand times before.

Again, thanks! I'll go through it all tomorrow. I will have to create a 2023 subforum. Only admins can do that. I'll set you as a moderator so that you can lock the threads as needed/wanted. Expect some action taken on this during the weekend. Ping me here on Talk.lol if you don't see any changes.

[ - ] popticalillusion 2 points 1 yearApr 28, 2023 22:34:28 ago (+2/-0)

I'll get more deliberation in the future practices, as this particular one I needed to get familiar with my equipment mainly. The guitar is the only thing I had used before. Plus now I wear glasses and have hearing aids too. I worked on my ability to play accurately also due to the nerve damage I have. The VA is going to put me through some tests this month to see what they find out.

I plan to increase the amount of time practicing in increments, to see how much I can handle. Now hopefully, I get something recorded so you all can tell me if I screwed the balance in Highs and lows. LOL

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 2 points 1 yearApr 28, 2023 23:00:39 ago (+2/-0)

It's hard, but you can try promising yourself 'five minutes a day'. That might seem absurd at the moment, but in reality, I've found folks playing well beyond the amount of time they initially allotted.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 1 point 1 yearApr 29, 2023 20:22:43 ago (+1/-0)

Check the forum. I've been productive!

[ - ] popticalillusion 1 point 1 yearApr 29, 2023 20:50:00 ago (+1/-0)

I was actually logged in when you sent the message. I just finished adding the missing links (Of Archives Only) for 2020 in the Wayback Machine. I hope to finish adding any missing links for 2018-19 tonight. Then I will bring 2023 up to date and attempt to get something recorded this week.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 1 point 1 yearApr 29, 2023 21:01:16 ago (+1/-0)

You shouldn't really have to go back before COF died. If they're missing prior to that (December of 2021) they simply don't exist. Well, a few months before that is when he stopped. @Sleazy was doing some, but gave up fairly soon after. So, we're missing that chunk until now, not including what you've already added.

There should only be one (?) missing and it's when we held the FNGT on the beta/testing Voat and the data was wiped before we got to back it up. PuttItOut tried to recover it from his own backups of the testing site, but it was lost forever.

Between then and when COF stopped/died, there shouldn't be (too m)any missing weeks.

[ - ] Sleazy 1 point 1 yearApr 29, 2023 03:09:18 ago (+1/-0)

You don't pick up the guitar every day?

[ - ] popticalillusion 1 point 1 yearApr 29, 2023 20:38:00 ago (+1/-0)

Not yet. I had suffered years of pain in all my joints, prior to being eligible for care at the VA. At one point, I thought I would never be able to play again, so I gave my gear to my son as a birthday present. He didn't use it, so after a couple years had passed, I bought it back from him so he would have cash to replace the present. By this time I had been taking Gabapentin for awhile, but I was taking care of my old mother and the 2 kids. I updated my gear, restrung both guitars, and attempted to repair the amplifier. Now, I live on my own in a building with other veterans, so I have the time and equipment to play again. My meds make me pretty drowsy during the daytime.

During the time I couldn't play the guitar I created my own Internet Radio station. Because of this, I have a vast Music Library of Rock-N-Roll music from the 50s to today's artists. I build my own computers and this latest build kicks some ass! My old 4-track recorder is now replaced with it and I have the mic and sound system too. I have some other music software too to assist me in the projects I now have planned to do.

[ - ] Sleazy 0 points 1 yearApr 29, 2023 20:48:04 ago (+0/-0)

Years of joint pain does not sound like fun. I understand how that could keep you from playing every day. I just take for granted that the pains I have do not preclude me from playing my guitars. I look forward to hearing your projects

[ - ] popticalillusion 1 point 1 yearApr 29, 2023 20:56:46 ago (+1/-0)

Yeah, I took a beating both physically and mentally. I'm going to start with something simple and work my way up from there. At least with the multi-tracking I can do a retake if I butcher something too bad. LOL

[ - ] Sleazy 1 point 1 yearApr 29, 2023 21:21:24 ago (+1/-0)

Heck yeah, you can try it as many times as you need to. I play through the part I want to record and play it without any issue, then press record and go to play it again and I screw something up in the first 2 seconds usually

[ - ] Sleazy 4 points 1 yearApr 28, 2023 20:09:12 ago (+4/-0)

My buddy Vverle us still in the hospital. Here he is singing to music he does not know.

Verle needs an acct. If only for the guitar thread.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 4 points 1 yearApr 28, 2023 20:22:22 ago (+4/-0)

I think that sums up (assuming I heard it properly) my vision of Verle...

"Let yourself go, don't be ashamed."

While that also seems to include urinating, it seems to sum up the rest of him as well.

[ - ] ChatGPT 2 points 1 yearApr 28, 2023 23:55:11 ago (+2/-0)

I discovered this dude on YT this week named Joe Robinson. He won Australia's America's Got Talent in 2008 or 09.?

He's so unassuming. Man alive, he'd get up at 4am and practice for 3 1/2 hours before going to school. I think he was 12.

He tours with Tommy Emmanuel. His story is so good. Check it out. He didn't have nothing so he played the fuck out of the guitar. He's real good at teaching guitar on jewtube.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 0 points 1 yearApr 29, 2023 16:12:16 ago (+0/-0)

I'm watching it rain (instead of watching racing) right now, but I'll look it up.

I still put in at least 2 hours of practice every day. I get up and do my guitar practice early every morning. I usually grab a large cup of coffee to enjoy while doing so, but it's pretty much the first thing I do every day.

[ - ] ChatGPT 2 points 1 yearApr 28, 2023 23:47:30 ago (+2/-0)

"Man alive! You shook it into overdrive." I stole that from Hot Rod Lincoln
