Hello and welcome to a new FNGT! Like normal, we'll go ahead and get you started.

We have something new for you this week. It's actually an original song. It's titled the way it is (Back To Basics) because it's a bit of a tribute to mid-80s metal. Note, I said metal - not to be confused with hair bands. It's not going to remind you of Poison or Bon Jovi. It's (hopefully) going to remind you of stuff like Megadeath or mid-80s Metallica. So, with all that said and done:

Fucking decent Buddha! Thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. I heard about 10 different influences on it, and especially like the minor notes in the keyboard accompaniment! Reminded me of Therion.

And, that's a good thing to remind you of. I was aiming squarely at reminding folks of mid-80s metal without actually copying anybody's music from that era.

You might inspire me to pick up the axe and contribute. Self taught, and would have to brush up a bit. I'm one of those guys that can play a 100 riffs, and can play 5 songs from beginning to end. Lol. I'd have to learn how to record and post. But be on the lookout, I will participate.

Recording can be as simple as a cell phone to as complicated as my setups. Hell, it even gets more complicated than the techniques I use. You can even do a lot of work in Audacity and there are a variety of free DAWs out there.

Yeah, my fingers still do what I tell them to do. I can play Flight of the Bumblebee at a pretty high BPM setting. It's a bit of a stretch to do it properly, but it's not too hard.

I'm a classical guitarist by training and I've been at it for more than fifty years. So, I have a whole lot of practice.

Oh, there's a bread company that's using "Been Caught Stealing" by Jane's Addiction in their commercial. It's fairly quiet and in the background, but it's definitely the song.

But, we put a whole lot of effort into it. That's a lot different than glancing at the chords and just going for it. They're entirely different things, even though the result is music.

That should do it. Though it kinda limits what you play. You can play all sorts of stuff that's not actually a note in the chord.

We'll have to keep tabs on your project as a whole. It's not easy doing something long and cohesive. It's also rare in this day and age, given that the whole idea of a 'concept album' is all but forgotten.

Roger that, I have the entire story written out. I decided to write songs this way, because when i write lyrics from my own viewpoint- they sound bad, or just feel stupid. When I write from the perspective of the characters in my story it's so much easier. But I havent written lyrics to this one yet.
