I think the difference here is scale. The Jews have influence over far more numbers imo to slander and attack through media and politics. But the pope himself went out of his way to refuse Christian burial to a guy and his entire family and call a curse upon him and all his relations for eternity, just for getting caught attending a Protestant meeting of some kind in America a few years back.
