This is probably not the type of garment a guy would wear in suburbia but it'd be perfect for grubby work in the forest, garden, what have you. It's a simple style you could make multiples of. Plus it looks really comfortable!

I think it looks sharp.

I imagine so! I'm going to have to make one for myself too.

Talking about work shirts .. I bought a silk robe direct from China over the internet for less than 50 bux about three yrs ago, it fell apart at the seams so I got it sewed up then it did the same thing again so I had it fixed again.

It was wonderfully glorious dark blue silk with Chinese calligraphy and a dragon motiff on the back, both times I had it sewn up it cost more than the purchase price, it fell apart again ..

So instead of sending off for more silk and since the mornings are growing colder, I decided to wear a linen shirt I have had for around 30 yrs but seldom wear.

When I took it out I saw the prodigious amount of industrial workwear accumulated from 40 yrs in construction and mining I had put away, so I gathered it all together had the shirts and a couple pairs of trousers ironed, then took nineteen shirts and eighteen pairs of strides down to the local opshop ..

Looks like a good work shirt. Collars that stay away from your beard, not too loose or tight, closable cuffs and rollable sleeves are good. The sleeves are a bit too loose for working on rotating machinery though, even if you roll them up slipups do happen.

Looks neat.

Did you see the townsends video on work shirts? There was all kinds of details in there I never knew. I love the little heart they used to sew on to strengthen the neck seam in particular.

What an inspirational video, thank you! I'm definitely making one for my hubby for the summer now.

Nice! I'm sure it'll help with all the work you guys are doing.

I've had a few shirt that I regret not buying multiples of over the years and I'm ashamed to say I don't know what material was used in them. I just knew I LIKED IT. One was light and stiff and would unwrinkle with a slight blow of the wind. Another was soft, smooth and relaxing.

I miss those shirts.

It's really neat, they treat it with some chemical to straighten out all the springy cotton proteins and it turns it something more like silk.

Were they natural fabrics or synthetic?

[ - ] RMGoetbbels 0 points 1.1 yearsMar 6, 2023 18:04:05 ago (+0/-0)

One was like a cotton/poly mix I think. It was so light you could pick it up by the collar and toss it like a tissue. The other was twill(?) and so smooth.

Idk bro, I'm not much into fabrics and such. Like and don't like are my two variables, rarely is there anything in between.

I have a training shirt just like that, it's amazing. It's incredibly soft, never wrinkles and washes/dries ultra fast (I can do it in the sink if I'm travelling.

The weird part is that it's not any special fiber, it's just some regular synthetic like polyester.

Fabric is dark science. Not sure about your shirt but sounds a bit like there could be some viscose in there?
