“Three Sailors” is probably the most famous Breton language folk song. Breton is a P-Celtic language most closely related to Cornish and to a lesser extent Welsh, as well as some extinct languages like Gaulish and Pictish.

When the Anglo-Saxons began to invade Cornwall and Wales (circa 8th cent.), some of the people fled to Brittany where they had historic ties from the time of the Roman empire. There may have still been a few Gaulish speakers around at that time. From that time Breton has diverged from Cornish and Welsh, assimilating many french words and pronunciations. It might sound a bit french but its not similar.

The song is about three Breton sailors who travel to New Foundland. May Bretons settled in the Maritime provinces.
