Windows 11 task bar replaced

If you are Microsoft, trying to convince people that upgrading is NBD, not even really charging them just trying to coerce them into it, how do you get rid of the taskbar and replace it with a faggy Mac-style menu?

I am probably going to uninstall this, but it came on a new laptop, so I thought I would check out.

If you're dead set on keeping Windows, there's things like Start11 that changes the taskbar and whatnot back. Also, the key for 11 will work on 10, so you can just get a stripped down ISO of that and do a clean install.

But the best bet is to just switch to some flavor of Linux unless you have things that either won't run under Wine or a VM, or don't have a Linux alternative.

For gaming on a laptop with proprietary hardware, yeah, I'm going to keep doing that.

Probably a stripped down Windows 10 is the way I will go. You got one you like?

I usually do the sort-of opposite of wine and run Linux in a VM. I may try Windows Subsystem for Linux this time. Though traditionally I have used VirtualBox or (at work) VMWare for this task. Linux runs infinitely happier in a VM than it does on OEM Windows hardware.

Several people have mentioned one of the Nexus/Xtreme LiteOS builds, but haven't tried them myself.

Nah, telling someone to switch to linux is like vaxxer to not boost themselves. At least nowadays. It's waaaay past beyond fixing.

I still haven't experienced windows 11. I want to get a pc, but money is a bit tight right now. My old laptop still works well enough and I have a phone and tablet so it's not imperative. When I do buy a new pc, I want to get a desktop and try out a different operating system, but I've read that windows still influences linux negatively.

I'm not the most computer savvy. So I can't elaborate any more than that I heard windows basically trojan horsed their data collections into linux. I'll try to find what I'm talking about. It's very possible I misunderstood or am misremembering what it was that I read. (Might have been in Maximum PC, I used to subscribe)

In a moment of weakness he accidentally implemented a functional TCP/IP stack, and he saw it was good. Or not that good. I dunno, his writings were a little bit zany. As was his coding style.

I have my reasons but mainly laziness. As I explained, I didn't go out and buy a copy of Windows for this laptop; it came that way.

It's just centered. You can tell it to be on the left like it used to be. You can also get other programs to make it the bar invisible or changed the alpha. Best to go with linux though.

Win 10 is trash both functionally and aesthetically, its a step down form win7. Win 11 is an abomination and I hope they bring out an addon like ChrisPC to correct the child like app appearance and make the GUI more intuitive, practical and functional for people that know how to use computers.

It might have to be time to jump to Linux, but what is steam compatibility with it gents?

Steam is awesome on linux. The ProtonDB compatability doodad lets pretty much all the games play fine. In my experience.

BTW put it on the left. Vertical monitor space is more valuable than horizontall and usually windows aren't the full width anyway.

I use it for gaming, 100%. I have to reboot that computer, anyways, and I don't want to put anything important on it, anyways. It has proprietary hardware that's a pain in the ass to get drivers for on Linux. Running windows is the simplest way to solve the problem of having a laptop.
