so right. a few weeks ago a friend of mine was in town and told me he got a booster that morning (sad). later he told me about the electric car he recently bought.

All this bullshit about what was said is a patent bald-faced fucking lie. These fuckers were told but they never bothered to actually read anything about the vehicles.

They didn't lie. Not one single fucking word about EVs was a lie. These faggot fucks just never read anything about their car. They piss and fucking moan about having to charge a cell phone every night. Or their watch sometimes twice a day and yet they thought it would somehow be different with a car you have to charge.

Let them fucking suffer. It's time for stupid people to leave the fucking gene pool.

That's nuts. You seem to saying that car salesmen don't lie.
Elon musk lies about everything all the time. He says the range will be such and such at a certain price point at a certain date. He is never right. He just lies.

His salesman guaranteed to my face that if I pay the extra 10k for a model 3, it would get full self driving in 1 month. That was 2 years ago. He lied.

My wife wanted a new car. We have a solar roof and lots of sunshine and live on an island that limits the need for range. So, I figured we'd check out a Tesla, so we went to the dealer.
Right away the salesman went into high pressure mode on my wife, trying to bully her into buying a car, while ignoring me entirely. Says full self drive guaranteed in one month [this was 2 years ago]. He was a total psychopath. Wife works in military mental health so doest take his shit, but I insist we do a test drive in spite of that jerk.

So we try a model 3. Take it on the road. Not special at all, wife hates it from the start. On a wide empty freeway I have her enable autopilot. The car can't hold a gentle 5 degree bend in the road and quickly pulls a maneuver exactly like what happened in the tunnel in SF that caused the 8 car pile up.
My wife is shaken greatly by the near death experience and we get the car back to dealer immediately.

She is now terrified of Teslas. Me too, watch out for them, they don't always light the break lights when slowing so you can miss this when following. And they might just dart into your lane. Total pieces of shit.

The same can be said of manual transmission cars. Always keep an eye out for abnormal shit.

There are companies/governments developing fast charging stations.

I heard rumors of 4 stalls, each 1MW for a full charge in 15-20min.

I don't know of anyone that has done the power grid dynamics of that - not just the overall added load, but the sudden load of Megawatts going on and off several times per hour?

Do they want blackouts? Because that is one way to get blackouts.

Ev’s have some great use cases. They are far cheaper to operate than gas and require next to zero maintenance. As an around towner or commuter, I would love one. As a general purpose automobile they have a way to go yet.

To the people moaning about the range not being as advertised, how many gas cars have you owned in your life that actually get the mpg that it says on the sticker? None of mine have even been close. I’m with the other poster, you can’t fix stupid for people that didn't do their homework and trust the institutions to be in charge of their wellbeing.

plug-in hybrids will be the dominant form. there isn't enough material in the world to give all cars a huge battery and there's no reason to anyway. It makes a lot of sense to have a small battery, 35-50 miles range, that cars primarily use for short trips in the city, plus an ICE for longer journeys.

[ - ] FluffyBunnySlippers 0 points 1.3 yearsFeb 1, 2023 00:14:51 ago (+0/-0)

But then you have redundant systems in your car and lose the advantages of maintenance and simplicity. An electric motor has one moving part. Hundred more from the gas engine you just put in there. Again, not the best use case if your only car but an around towner, 300 mile range would get you out and back for the day

[ - ] Empire_of_the_Mind 0 points 1.3 yearsFeb 1, 2023 00:49:08 ago (+0/-0)

the motor may have one moving part but that's not the majority of car parts. Understand the key is that it's literally impossible to build enough batteries to make all cars electric. It's not even within the ballpark of plausible. Future cars will likely use hydrogen fuel cells anyway. In the meantime, PHEV is the best model.

I’m not asserting all cars or even most cars should be. Just that they are useful and probably the right economic choice for some people’s ise cases

I have a hybrid and get about 500+ miles per tank. Used car and paid for it fully in cash awhile back.

Thus comment is apropos of nothing.

Can't help you if you don't read the article.

Range of a gas powered car is irrelevant when not correlated with something meaningful. My raptor has a 600 mile range. Does it matter? Nope, it it gets terrible gas mileage it just has a big gas tank. Your hybrid can get any range you want but it doesn't matter because it's not an EV and you gave no reason to believe it's better than any other gas powered car, but I guess it is more expensive than non hybrid cars in its class. Btw my old geo metro hfi got 60 mpg, and cost $5000 new off the lot, not a hybrid.
So, the reference to hybrid is not relevant to the topic.

Cough up another $5k….

nope, I've already gotten the value out of it as long as I've had it.
