I can tell you for a fact that these videos are all bullshit. I have personally been in many of these offices and I have worked out of a few of them.
The reality is that many of the offices are indeed very posh with fancy decor and high quality food in the cafe. Nap rooms, Maternity rooms, on-site gyms ... yeah they exist. But no one ever uses them. People hate going to the office and this is from way before the pandemic. I work in a globally distributed team with people on 3 continents and 5 different time zones. There is very little reason for me to physically go to the office and when I do I am just sitting at a desk and putting on head phones and joining a zoom call or a teams meeting anyway... or I am writing code and ignoring everything. I can (and do) do the job from anywhere so why would I drive an hour to get into the city, spend too much parking just to ignore my surroundings? My home office is more comfortable and no amount of tasty food and corporate art is going to make the commute and gas and parking worth it.
Most high tech offices are ghost towns. All those perks? Those are for the executives who approve them so that they get luxury every day. Sure gourmet steak may be served for lunch... for about 10 minutes. They probably have a total of 10 steaks and at 12:00 noon sharp 7 of them get cooked to order and are hand delivered to a corner office up on the top floor that you are not allowed to go to. The last 3 steaks go to the first three lucky employees.
The office is not 'adult day care' ... no the office is a all-inclusive luxury resort for a very small hand full of very rich executives. And if you come to the office every day you might occasionally get lucky and get a nice meal.
Why would executives come in when they can stay home and have somebody cook them a nice meal? You said no one wants to come in, but that doesn't extend to the top?
Not every office has executive that come in regularly. Not every office has gourmet food on the menu. These two statements are tied together. If there are no influential big-wig in that office all of those perks will dry up in two short budget cycles.
Why do the executive come to the office? two reasons...
First is that the pain in the ass of coming into the office does not effect the the corner offices. These people have drivers, limos, helipads on the roof, reserved parking spaces where ever they go, etc. These people never experience discomfort in the office OR at home.
The second reason is that the executive does their job face to face. Billion dollar deals do not happen in a zoom call. Billion dollar deals happen in private conference rooms on the top floor with a stunning view of the city sky line. Billion dollar deals eventually get hashed out on paper with a bunch of lawyers but that is the last step of getting it down on paper. The actual deal is negotiated face to face with no paper trail and no recordings because these people know better than to leave a trail of evidence. For every billion dollar deal made, someone somewhere on this planet gets fucked. They do not want you to ever know how the sausage is made. The levers of power must be pulled by hand.
Riddle me this batman: How do we know about the "10% for the big guy"? Joe did not leave a paper train of any of that. We only know about "10% for the big guy" because of his crack head son. So at some point Joe Biden had to get on a plane, fly to the Ukraine, go to the Burisma corporate office, and behind closed doors and face to face they agreed to kick back 10%. They shook hands and Biden left. THIS is why executives go to the office.
