On a tangential note (this knowledge is years old and may have changed), Dyson vacuums are overpriced. They spend a ton of money on marketing to fool consumers. If you are considering a high-end vacuum like Dyson, at least look into Miele vacuums. There are a number of videos on youtube by vacuum repair shops explaining why Mieles are all around better vacuums, including ease of repair. I bought a lower-end, $500 Miele almost a decade ago and it still works great.
Also, bagless vacuums sound like a great money-saving feature, but they have a number of problems. Just get a normal vacuum that uses bags.
I had a dyson eh, it was heavy and a bit of a pain in the ass but it worked. Shop vacs are where its at though. They really need to get the word out on those to the housewives because yes the dyson is pretty and sleek but the shop vac is a work horse. I love her.
