Why come up with a new subversive franchise when you can take a fondly remembered franchise and make it ten times as degenerate? Far more demoralization for far less effort.
That 70's show was sometimes funny, had a pretty distinct cast of characters, and at least made an attempt to visually represent the 70's.
This doesn't make you think 90's at all. It's set in 1995, the year I got my first job. They didn't even try to replicate the 90's. Not even the clothes on the kids remind me of what we were wearing in high school in the mid 90's.
Betting the first episode will be the kids reacting to a bunch of 70's things like "dude what the fuck is this thing?" while holding an 8 track. Even my grandparents in the 90's didn't still have 8 tracks and records laying around. Most of the gaudy 70's furniture was gone by then too. The basement set still looks like the 70's set in the trailer.
Casting looks atrocious. Probably more diverse than 90's Wisconsin was, and some of the whiter ones still look a bit racially ambiguous.
Looks like we have a stoner type kid, guess he's the new Hyde. There's a dopey looking big guy, probably the new Ashton Kutcher. The Chinese boy is probably the new Fez. Then we get two mutt girls and a gender swapped Eric. It's basically the Burger King Kid's Club LARPING as the That 70's Show cast. It's all of the gags from the original show, rehashed with imposters.
Feels like this show is completely lacking everything that made the original fun to watch.
