They justify this by talking about the jobs these authorities have, the oaths they've sworn, and there's they have to abide by.
Ignoring the fact that laws don't control peoppea behavior, the enforcement of laws do.
Same goes for rights, which they give credit to God for, which is wrong, as rights come from the same place laws do, that there are consequences for violating them is what gives them any substance.
