"Inalienable" Rights

Ever wonder why, in those Wild West shows and movies, the antagonist is a known criminal and yet he always has a gun anyway? The 1968 Gun Control Act is what restricts felons from owning guns. And notice how it's only the Second Amendment. People who are convicted of libel or slander don't get their First Amendment rights taken away.

In the Wild West genre, it's well understood that "an armed society is a polite society." That bartender probably has a gun behind the counter, and whenever the Marshall or gunslinger is present, although antagonistic, the villain usually behaves.

None of the gun laws that exist now are in accordance with the text, history, and tradition of the Second Amendment. Any "gun control" law needs to have a history before 1791, the year the Second Amendment was ratified. The Bruen (https://supreme.justia.com/cases/federal/us/597/20-843 ) ruling has massive potential to change things, as one goat has already posted (https://www.zerohedge.com/political/judge-throws-out-fed-law-against-guns-serial-numbers-removed ).

Although seeing a shift from anti-gun to pro 2A is encouraging, it just might never be enough.

I was having a mild conversation with an anti-gun person, and the US came up.

I asked "what led to the 2nd Amendment?" Guy was ignorant.

I asked who said "the British are coming, the British are coming"?

Again ignorant.

Why were the American colonies concerned about the British coming? Nothing.

Then I said "the British were coming to take their guns".

No idea if that caused his two or three brain cells to rub together, but he definitely was very confused.

Felons are not considered citizens but slaves per the 13th.

They lose the right to vote (slaves can't vote).

They cannot hold office.

They cannot be jurors.

Location depending, they cannot work in certain fields or travel.

Rights are like laws, they ultimately come from the ability to enforce them - the ability to impose consequences upon those who violate them.

Just as a law ceases to be when it is no longer backed by force, a right will also vanish if it is not made manifest through the willingness to punish any transgressions upon it.
