Max Hastings' gripping account of the Cuban Missile Crisis is a terrifying reminder of the last time Russia threatened to obliterate the West

Don't you stupid boys know how serious this is?' he yelled. 'At any minute, we could all be dead.' It was October 1962 and the news was grim. Apocalyptically so.

Putin has not yet threatened the west.

In words he has:

'... if there is a threat to the territorial integrity of our country and for protecting our people, we will certainly use all the means available to us and I’m not bluffing.".

Pretty sure he was referring specifically to attacking what is now again Russian territory.

Seems like we have lived this scenario before, of a country reclaiming lands that were theirs and only removed via treaty or lack of power at the time of separation, and the west becoming furious about it. Now, what could I possibly be referring to?

Although this time, the west has even more inept diplomats, so it's not a good time.

Just because you think I'm wrong doesn't mean you should down vote me! You should upvote me if you think the article has any intrinsic value and ...you do!

Dont need to read a book about it. My parents lived through it, the blackouts, the Cuban refugees, the whole shebang, right there in Hialeah.

Any of you teenagers/highschoolers out there right now, write down your impressions. ON PAPER. Print them out if you have to. Keep these for your kids. It's pretty cool to read your parents thoughts on living through something like that.

Hialeah is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida. With a population of 223,109 as of the 2020 census, Hialeah is the sixth-largest city in Florida.[Library Service]

It was the landing point for the majority of Cuban refugees fleeing Castro. Lots of rich businessmen, plantation owners, etc. It has a neighborhood called 'Little Havana', as well as a lot of gambling - a greyhound track, a horse track ( trotters, iirc) and the Jai Alai games.
