Hurricane Ian

submitted by usedoilanalysis to Fluiddynamics 1.6 yearsSep 26, 2022 08:13:07 ago (+5/-0)     (Fluiddynamics)

Looks like it's just going to park itself in the gulf of Mexico near Tampa, until it dissipates. The eye isn't going to make landfall until Friday of this week. All the Tampa people beware of flooding more than strong winds.

Yeah right, that rocket isn't flying into the ocean until December at this rate.

This aint fun. I lived in harris County, Texas during Hurricane Harvey, when it did this and just dumped rain on the Houston area, on AVERAGE, 33" of rain over the entire county.

Where I lived topped 45" over the two day period of rain while Harvey parked in the Gulf.

Just imagine the hard, hard rain of an afternoon squall, but it lasts for 36 straight hours.

What year was it when Orlando got hit with 4 hurricanes in succession? 2007? Imnagine that, but in tampa, and in just 2 days.

Learn to read a forecast map before you make off the cuff statements. The eye itself will not make landfall, hurricane force winds only extend around 35 miles from the eye wall for the largest of hurricanes. Therefore as long as the eyewall doesn't touch land, there is no hurricane.

https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_at4+shtml/102341.shtml?tswind120#contents

As you can see, the probability of TROPICAL STORM strength winds only extends to the coastal areas, not hurricane. My point stands, Tampa bay area has to worry about flooding and not much else.

Forecasting models have improved drastically in the last 10, hell just the last 5 years has seen big improvements.

The problem is, they're fucking lying to you. I've lived in Florida most of my life. One thing I know for sure is that weather forecasting is part of the media and they make their daily bread from lying to people, wether they know it or not.

I'm not lying though. Maybe the media is trying to scare you, I'm simply giving my forecast based on my experience.

I only spent two years living in ponte vedra beach, which alcohol is appropriate for flooding? Is it hard liquor or beer?

[ - ] PeckerwoodPerry 1 point 1.6 yearsSep 26, 2022 14:38:33 ago (+1/-0)

Both. Beer while you can keep it cold, hard liquor for when the power goes out.

Considering oil and water don't mix and oil is less dense, I'd go with beer, it'll make you fatter, more floaty, lower bone density.

I hate beer, but I wouldn't want to drown.

Hurricanes haven't been a problem for me since Matthew anyway. Just be safe my beloved gator huggers.

If there's a food shortage we can always live off lizard meat.

I'm not a fan of it, but hunger is the best spice.

Also, do much golfing? Ponte Vedra is beautiful.

Not a golfer, but I did enjoy walking 5 minutes to go surfing. Got a ton of night surfing in during that time too!
