That said, some of the comments have some great information on things you might not have already thought of or planned for. For most of the civilized world, we're still living off of last year's food stores and supplies. We haven't hit the big hump yet. I'm guessing that's gonna be shortly after or around Christmas. Maybe spring, if things hold out well. People will have adjusted from this year and are already planning gardens for next year so your garden supplies will be scarce or expensive. Get anything you need to grow shit and amend your soil now. I know I am.

I planted $90 of seed potatoes (9 bags). I lied to the missus they were $5 per bag when they were $10. She was scathing and said they probably wouldn't grow let alone have potatoes.Edit: they are growing but I admit to sleepless nights.

A supermarket bag of spuds costs $5 (usually) and contains about 15 spuds. To break even I will need to harvest 270 potatoes which ain't gunna happen. I'm hoping I'll recoup costs, at least, by saving a few potatoes for next year and the year after that.

But I tell myself it's not quantity, it's quality! And ... and what I'm about is food-security! Still...the maths is sobering.

You can leave them in the ground over winter to grow again. Once they start poking through the surface, keep mounding them and don't stop until they do.
