A fair question. Let’s answer it. In my opinion, this public statement is meant as a morale boost for 2A supporters. He supports us, and in return of this gesture, we ought to answer the call to support them if the time comes. Morale is a powerful thing..

But yeah, a gesture of good will. It’s not a waste of time, but I do understand your points, hence the fair question.
