Two weeks ago, I was told that my job was ending. Since then, I haven’t really been able to find something good. Yesterday, I got hired by a place. I spent 3 hours onboarding and watching harassment and gender videos and signing off on all of their paperwork. Today, I am asked for pics of my various licenses and of my vax card. Obviously, I don’t have a vax card, but I filled out the religious form at my other job last year, so I sent them that from November. They tried to say they couldn’t read it. It is a little blurry admittedly, but I can make it out on my cellphone. I re-sent it as the largest size instead of medium. This email volley followed:

Hello:

I just spoke with HR regarding my exemption and she alluded to weekly testing for Covid.

I explained that this would likely cause undue financial hardship, but it would cause general hardship, as well. What if an employee shows no outward signs of tuberculosis, hepatitis or Ebola? Would they also be required to take a test every week to ensure that they didn’t have it? That’s presumptuous and a tad persecutory.

I haven’t had even a sniffle in the entire 2.5 years that this has been going on and I worked all through it. I rode trains and buses to work when for the first 5 or 6 weeks, I was the only one on them besides the conductor/driver who wasn’t scared to come outside and go to work.

I’m sure some client out there will appreciate my dedication as an “essential worker” (even though all workers are pretty much essential).

I understand your concerns. Unfortunately, we do have to follow city-wide guidelines regarding the vaccination, so we highly appreciate your understanding on our thorough follow-up process when it comes to this matter.

Our HR Director is currently seeking approval from client but there will be a delay on the start date until we can get this finalized.

You said it best: These are “guidelines”—-not laws. The law is that I am allowed a religious exemption.
