Homegrown stuff is always better than store bought.

Same with tomatoes. Bulk grocery store stuff is nothing other than water filled sack

Grocery stores have the worst fake produce.

Your store probably carries a commercial variety that's more about weight and other factors than flavor.

You should taste beef from a local farmer. You'll never eat super market beef again. Same thing with pork. I'm on a first name basis with the people who raise or grow 95% of the food I eat. It's the next best thing to growing it myself, and I certainly don't have space for pigs or cattle.

Anything I eat Ive killed with my bare hands. Vegetables are only for vitamin C until I can will myself to start producing it naturally.

We got a freezer full of beef, paid for half of the largest cow a local rancher family had. (A friend went in on the other half)

Grass fed, until the day it died, 100% natural life. It's fat doesn't quite have the nice taste that grain fed cows can get on the more expensive end (It's more of a grass flavor, like a deep breath after mowing the lawn), but the ground beef and stew meat are top-notch. The steaks we've not had but one of so far and it was pretty good.

It's hard to compare steaks though, when you get used to a lot of localized beef and/or higher priced cuts from places that take it seriously.

Eggs were something that startled my family once we had chickens, they taste way better fresh than they ever could have in a store.

Just had some ground beef that my friend grained out the grass fed cow for the last two months and it’s the best thing I’ve ever had.

I hear that's a common tactic to grain them the last few months to fatten them up and to change the overall taste.

I might have to look for something similar next time, after we eat through enough room in the freezer.

I've tried getting my beef from the local Mennonites. Most disgusting meat i've ever eaten. Speaking with others around here that tried their meat, i found out that the butcher the Mennonites use never properly cleans his place and has a bad smell to it. All the meat processed through that place takes on that funky smell.

Absolutely. I don't really like store cucumbers, but I grow them every year and my garden cucs are delicious. They're really easy to grow too! Give it a try if you want. You could even grow one in a large pot if you didn't have room

This year will be my first wheat harvest. I have more than just that on the homestead, but the point is we will be fully self sufficient this time next year if everything keeps up like this.

Stocks are down, but my stalks are growing!

Invest in a good sickle. I was doing a large plot of wheat for a few years, but switched to potatoes because I could produce more with the space.

Are you hand threshing and winnowing? I was using a large tarp and a baseball bat turned into a flail and it worked great.

I'm not sure, I was thinking scything it, but I'm not sure what's "best"

I am so sorry for you, man. Raw milk is amazing, farm eggs are incredible, growing your own shit is just fantastic.
