Those are still the criteria I use for anyone I allow to get close to me. I don't like talking to anyone who can't express himself without using a lot of vulgarity. A good rule of thumb is the larger the vocabulary, the higher the intelligence. But that's not set in stone. Anyone who can express himself clearly, as you said, is preferable to someone who is inarticulate, no matter how intelligent.

Choice of language is important. Speaking honestly, ignoring political correctness, and not using euphemisms are also good indicators. This is also a good sign of ideology. You want someone who's closer to the right than the left. Fortunately, leftists and liberals self-identify with everything they do, say, or wear.

I'm totally with you there. I tend to do that too, and it makes me come across like some kind of condescending jerk, and rather than communicating, it just tends to intimidate people. That's why I qualified it by saying that that rule of thumb is not set in stone. Sometimes you just need to speak how everyone else is speaking to make yourself understood.

Hopefully each of us would have a home-base with trusted family/friends. Anyone approaching our home-base could be controlled by multiple individuals, so it would be much safer. The only apocalyptic scenario I could see being like this would be after a nuclear war, or for a relatively short time after an EMP or geomagnetic storm (power grid failure, economic failure)
