Having had to defend myself with a gun before, I can tell you exactly what's going on here.
Ignoring for the moment that a gun in a fist fight is likely illegal defense here (there are exceptions), he otherwise does all the right things.
1. He pulls. 2. He presents (not brandishing - those are two different things) 3. He commands in a strong and firm voice. 4. He backs up, creating space and time to think. 5. Once he has done that, he picks a line and holds it, braced and stanced correctly. 6. He does not respond to any threats or attempts at escalation prior to shooting - he keeps his mouth shut giving the aggressor time to possibly cool down. 7. When attacked again, he does not hesitate and picks a kill zone, changing to a take-down zone before shooting. 8. He continues to retreat while keeping the gun trained on his enemy until he knows the danger is passed. 9. He creates space between himself and his enemy once he has ascertained that all immediate danger has passed.
This man has likely been trained at least in the laws regarding firearm use and self defense, possibly trained in scenarios specifically similar to this.
As far as the idiot, what is happening is that he has switched into the "fight" part of "fight or flight." Flight is no longer an option as the adrenaline has locked his brain into a specific course of action. His parasympathetic system has completely shut down and can only act on auto-pilot. His "retreat" while taking off his shirt was to create space while the shirt temporarily blinded him. In his mind, however, a mental "break" has already occurred. When presented with conflicting information that the brain was not expecting, it will freeze while it attempts to reconcile the information. This is what you see when people freeze when death or violence is heading towards them. In this case, anger now suddenly means a potential death. As this was not expected and adrenaline surging, the thought processes go on auto-pilot and the "backing up" to take off his shirt is the resulting action.
When I had to defend myself, the exact same thing happened. I retreated multiple times, I gave warning, picked a line and defended it and kept my mouth shut, I pulled and presented. When I presented, the other party attempted to take the gun while in the midst of the same mental break. I created space by shoving the enemy about 10 feet back. When they landed on their knees, they finally were able to break through the mental break and realized that the gun was pointed right at their face and they had no means to reach me without death. I was beginning to squeeze on the trigger when that light bulb went off and they ran.
This series of events will play out almost exactly step for step in each confrontation. It only varies when the defender is an initial aggressor or not acting in true self defense. This is a tell-tale sign to experienced or trained officers.
ANY time someone says "BLAH like a man," they want you to give up an advantage they don't or can't have. It's an attempt at shitty negotiation by the weak except both sides get something with real negotiation.
Further, when the mind goes into that break and can't reconcile, it will use words. When I drew on my enemy, all they could say was "What, are you gonna shoot me?" Well, yeah, bitch. When I draw a gun on someone, I absolutely have every intent on using it.

Look up active self protection on jewtube. He posted this shoot and an interview with the shooter. Apparently these two are neighbors that I've been having problems for some time. The video is taken at 5 in the morning when the shooter was leaving for work. The aggressive guy was waiting on his front porch for him to come out with a knife in his pants and when he took off his shirt the guy saw the knife in his waistline and when he came Adam he was trying to grab at it or something and that's when he decided to shoot.
