Eggplant is what you eat when the 'Ndrangheta staunch your farm and you are too poor and stupid to grow other more impressive vegetables.

The sheer fact that you need to bake the hell out of it with seasoning and a heavy spice rub, then turn it into baby food, tells you all you need to know about eggplant.

I don't think you know how to cook eggplant.thats ok come over I'll show you how.

P.s. I wish I was stupid enough to grow eggplant I'm jealous of the one guy that grew watermelons last year.

Post the recipe, I guarantee it will be cooked the crap house and heavily seasoned to mask the insidious and foul flavour of the most basic bitch of peasant vegetables.

Salt pepper olive oil.

I still have my taste buds

I like beets.

[ - ] Gowithit 1 point 2.0 yearsMay 26, 2022 07:22:26 ago (+1/-0)

I just recently found out you can plant the tops and just keep growing those without the beet root. Have you tried it? Does it taste the same?

Oh and I tried a new dish with roasted beets and sweet potatoes with chickpeas. I added cinnamon like the recipe said and it was hot.
Not spicy but there was a bit of heat.

[ - ] FreeinTX 1 point 2.0 yearsMay 26, 2022 07:29:59 ago (+1/-0)

I'll try and let you know.

[ - ] Gowithit 1 point 2.0 yearsMay 26, 2022 07:34:51 ago (+1/-0)

I have limited garden space so I was thinking if they tasted the same as from the beet themselves to just border the edge of the new patch with those.

I think it would look pretty but I didn't want to waste the space.

Prefer Brussels Sprouts.

[ - ] Gowithit 1 point 2.0 yearsMay 26, 2022 07:27:58 ago (+1/-0)

They always smell great while they're cooking but Im not the biggest fan of them.

How do you make them?

[ - ] GrayDragon [op] 0 points 2.0 yearsMay 26, 2022 14:57:53 ago (+0/-0)

Just with butter. They are wonderful.

[ - ] Fascinus 1 point 2.0 yearsMay 26, 2022 15:10:17 ago (+1/-0)

They're awesome deep-fried, especially in duck fat. This is (or was) a featured appetizer at Iron Chef Michael Symon's restaurant, Offal.

You "shell" them by separating the leaves rather than frying them whole. Throw a couple of handfuls of leaves into the fryer basket and magic happens.

[ - ] Gowithit 1 point 2.0 yearsMay 26, 2022 16:41:20 ago (+1/-0)

Alright I'm going to try it . What do you eat with it? Chicken? Pork? Don't you dare say offal haha Have you seen the price of tounge lately? And the last time I bought cheek the damn thing evaporated it was all just a ball of fat.

I'm going to do it with pork . That sounds good . Thanks for the recipe!

Recently I grilled an eggplant cut into quarters with salt, pepper, garlic powder, olive oil, and covered in the chili flakes used to make kimchi. Was great.

[ - ] Ragnar 1 point 2.0 yearsMay 26, 2022 11:24:00 ago (+1/-0)

Yuck

I might try this (without the kimchi part)

[ - ] Yargiyankooli 0 points 2.0 yearsMay 26, 2022 23:55:08 ago (+0/-0)

It is literally just dried chili flakes in a Korean bag https://search.brave.com/images?q=kimchi%20chili%20powder#4

[ - ] Ragnar 0 points 2.0 yearsMay 26, 2022 23:59:36 ago (+0/-0)

Interesting. Why not use normal chilli flakes?

[ - ] Yargiyankooli 0 points 2.0 yearsMay 27, 2022 00:09:32 ago (+0/-0)

Definitely has a bit of a different taste than Italian dried chili flakes, also more of a powdered consistency. Also I can really coat the eggplant in them (we eat very spicy though)

[ - ] GrayDragon [op] 0 points 2.0 yearsMay 26, 2022 08:44:13 ago (+0/-0)

See, this is what I am talking about!

[ - ] Gowithit 1 point 2.0 yearsMay 26, 2022 07:26:42 ago (+1/-0)

I about ate the whole pan once of roasted eggplant with zucchini. Delicious.

I saw this one recipe for eggplant with mushroom buns like a hamburger kind of deal . I want to try it but I think my family would disown me if I served it for dinner.

[ - ] GrayDragon [op] 1 point 2.0 yearsMay 26, 2022 08:45:49 ago (+1/-0)

Be a man for once in your life and force eggplant down your kids' throats! Damn the wifes!

[ - ] gimpyoldman 3 points 2.0 yearsMay 26, 2022 08:52:55 ago (+3/-0)

I was forced to try a lot of dishes as kid that I thought were repulsive. Once I became an adult and tried a few restaurants, and had dinner at other peoples houses I realized my mother was a horrible cook and should never have been allowed in a kitchen.

[ - ] GrayDragon [op] 0 points 2.0 yearsMay 26, 2022 14:50:49 ago (+0/-0)

I had the semi-opposite experience. My mom was a random element. If she tried, it was fantastic, but if she didn't give a fuck, who knows!

Also, dated cans or packages didn't mean shit to her. I was the first to chow down on some vegetable (forget) and immediately spit it out. My mom was like, "Eat it, you ungrateful bastard!" I turned to my dad and said, "Make her eat it first."

My dad agreed. My mom ate one bite, grabbed the entire dish and threw it in the garbage pail, haha!
