Always be the best dressed at work. It's OK to be overdressed for an occasion. Being underdressed is embarrassing. You can always say, if overdressed, "We don't go out much, so when we do, we like to make it a special thing."

But, on the other hand, dressing the way you feel most comfortable shows you to be above the crowd and not worrying about what others think. I just prefer the overdressing because I AM better than them.
