Exactly. There is a biologically-sensitive time when these subjects become interesting to teenagers. Prior to that time it is uncomfortable and embarrassing to be exposed to it. Those aren't adults. The kid is presumably 8y/o, as that's the same age as the target audience, so his sister would need a 10 year age gap to be an adult.
The guy in the relationship is likely under 16 if he's driving a scooter, the girl is even younger since she doesn't have transportation, and there's a teddy bear on the bed.

I didn't have a sister. But I was an older brother. I had friends with older sisters. I never recall in my life hearing any older siblings teach their younger siblings about fucking. I guess at that age one tends to be very curious about it and I remember wanting to know more about it and talking about it with my friends who were usually as ignorant as me. But I certainly didnt want to be subjected to full on adult sexuality and I didnt want to talk about it with grown ups. The “birds and bees” talk with my mother was brief and horrific for both of us. I still feel creeped out just thinking about it.

I remember there were a few kids I knew whose moms were more open and progressive about sex. I thought they were weird.

I did. Chastised them hard on why these books need to be burned. But my neice has a problem of ripping pages out of books. So, I took the book with me and ripped pages out in front of her and told her find more of these books and bring them to me, I'll take care of the rest. I gave her my copy of Mein Kampf and told her the story of this wonderful man and that he wouldn't be proud if you ripped this book of his, but would be proud if you bring those nasty books to me.
