I agree, and I'd add it's not just about being banned. You know the concept of the overton window, where there is a variable range of things that are considered reasonable to talk about? That concept applies on smaller scales too. So when you understand the audience you want to reach, you hold back and tailor everything to their own Overton window so they accept and understand what you're saying.
