SIG may choose to keep the round proprietary, preventing civilians from chambering it. I think the NWO folks would like to see a separation of military PDWs from those available to civilians.

reading about mil-spec stuff makes me think the same thing. keep citizens racing to catch up

Murika! Hell yeah!

Morons. It's a money grab but you're too stupid to see it since your "patriotism" blinds you...patriot.

what does it matter, what size round we will use. the commies will be to busy laughing at the green vehicles and free sex change recipients that the current Dementia in Chief wants to unleash

Some good comments here: https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/8402479/6-8x51-new-military-round

My thought on the matter is who cares? The latest wiz bang round isn’t going to accomplish anything the other rounds we have don’t. Wonder which retired general got this pushed through.

QMC SW/EXW
Having been in combat, having engaged the enemy with 7.62x51 and seen what it does to said enemy I see NO REASON for this especially when you consider all of the weapon platforms using the 7.62 round. It would cost hundreds of millions of dollars to switch over to a 6.8x51 with no real gain in combat effectiveness.

Just another unnecessary MIC money laundering operation.

6.8 would be significantly lighter to carry around and would have better ballistics, at least at battle-rifle range.

[ - ] FalseRealityCheck 0 points 3 yearsMay 7, 2022 13:36:52 ago (+0/-0)

The ballistic advantages are nominal at best and have not been battle tested. I don't think there will be any real-world ballistic advantage compared to a .308 when it comes down to a firefight. Reduced cartridge weight is beneficial especially when considering a typical LR-308 rifle is heavier than a comparable AR-15, but most of that could be offset be using the same polymer casing or steel/brass combination of the 6.8 with the .308.

Like I wrote previously, this strikes me as just another MIC money laundering operation.

I guess twelve states got absorbed into the bullet to make it bigger.

[ - ] lord_nougat 1 point 3 yearsMay 6, 2022 17:44:31 ago (+1/-0)

Looks kinda .30-06-ish

[ - ] WanderingToast 0 points 3 yearsMay 7, 2022 06:00:28 ago (+0/-0)

Given this will kill just as effectively as the standard round. But I imagine this new round is going to be a fair amount heavier, so isn't this just going to decrease combat effectiveness

Why come they don't put them in bikini's?

[ - ] Clubberlang 0 points 3 yearsMay 6, 2022 21:59:03 ago (+0/-0)

That'll makem extra gudded plus

[ - ] o0shad0o 0 points 3 yearsMay 6, 2022 18:54:10 ago (+0/-0)

I have an AR set up as a hunting rifle, chambered in 6.8 SPC. This is an older cartridge that appears to be a bit shorter than the 6.8x51 but I think is loaded for higher pressure and a similar velocity. A quick net search didn't come up with any direct comparisons but I'd be interested if anyone's seen any.

[ - ] RecycledElectrons 0 points 3 yearsMay 6, 2022 18:22:42 ago (+0/-0)

That's a lot of hassle compared to a K&M Arms M17 in .308 with a better cooling system.

[ - ] Spaceman84 0 points 3 yearsMay 6, 2022 18:40:41 ago (+0/-0)

The same was said about many proven battle rifles when they were new. I love .308 but this looks good too. How much ammunition you can carry is a decisive factor.

[ - ] canbot 2 points 3 yearsMay 7, 2022 01:13:09 ago (+2/-0)

Robot dogs should carry the ammo.

[ - ] Spaceman84 1 point 3 yearsMay 8, 2022 05:30:48 ago (+1/-0)

But who will carry the batteries for the robodogs?

[ - ] canbot 1 point 3.0 yearsMay 9, 2022 16:36:08 ago (+1/-0)

Robotic generators on stilts.

[ - ] bites_you 0 points 3.0 yearsMay 10, 2022 11:52:44 ago (+0/-0)

actually that would be pretty cool. those dogs might be cool when they get to be more affordable

[ - ] diggernicks 0 points 3 yearsMay 6, 2022 17:46:52 ago (+1/-1)

You know force= mass X velocity² right?

Bigger isnt always better

[ - ] Ozark 3 points 3 yearsMay 6, 2022 17:50:51 ago (+3/-0)

Thanks for the input, you fucking genius.

[ - ] diggernicks 2 points 3 yearsMay 6, 2022 17:53:10 ago (+2/-0)

Youre welcome you special olympian

[ - ] Teefinyomouf 1 point 3 yearsMay 6, 2022 21:47:32 ago (+1/-0)

That's 2x kinetic energy not force. Check your math bro. Force is muzzle energy divided by barrel length.

[ - ] diggernicks 0 points 3 yearsMay 6, 2022 21:50:59 ago (+0/-0)

Youre right

Velocity should not be squared

[ - ] Spaceman84 0 points 3 yearsMay 6, 2022 18:37:12 ago (+0/-0)

It has a longer case and is just as fast as 5.56 despite the heavier bullet. The only drawback is capacity/carry weight. It has superior ballistics.

[ - ] PotatoWhisperer 1 point 3 yearsMay 6, 2022 18:52:10 ago (+1/-0)

That and you don't have old stores of ammo to use, as well as not being able to use your enemies ammo.

[ - ] diggernicks 1 point 3 yearsMay 6, 2022 21:32:34 ago (+1/-0)

Those dont sound like plusses lol

[ - ] Spaceman84 0 points 3 yearsMay 6, 2022 23:01:02 ago (+0/-0)

Give it a few years. 300BLK picked up steam pretty quick.

[ - ] GoatsAdvocate 0 points 3 yearsMay 6, 2022 21:14:55 ago (+0/-0)

Except the casing isn’t the same size so gg

Not the size of the wand

Its the magic you can do with it

Mass is a function of size you idiot

[ - ] diggernicks 0 points 3 yearsMay 7, 2022 14:14:48 ago (+0/-0)

Mass is a function of density you twat

[ - ] canbot 0 points 3 yearsMay 7, 2022 20:26:02 ago (+0/-0)

Bullets are all made of lead jackass. So they all have the same density.

[ - ] diggernicks 0 points 3 yearsMay 7, 2022 20:37:21 ago (+0/-0)

We're talking about the cartridge load jackass

[ - ] KangzNSheeit 0 points 3 yearsMay 7, 2022 14:11:23 ago (+0/-0)

Energy is mass times velocity^2 divided by 2. Force is mass times the time derivative of velocity.
