There are tons of ways to stabilize footage on the fly. Some of the tornado coverage out of OKC last week I would have sworn was from a tower somewhere had I not seen the helicopter skids in a couple of shots.

I’m not a dronefag, how the hell is that drone flying that high in the vicinity of a tornado? Even if it’s 2-4 miles away the winds at that altitude would be ripping and shifting directions quickly, including up and down drafts.

Either is has one hell of a zoom lens and it’s many many miles away, or that is one badass drone.

Awesome footage.

The winds from a tornado don't extend much past the funnel. That's why nighttime tornadoes have always been so terrifying. By the time you hear the wind picking up, it's probably too late to get out of the way.

The power is amazing, it just disintegrates homes like it was never there. I've always thought that we'd see people flying around in tornadoes but I haven't seen it.

Well That's Terrifying.

The drone is stable because it is far enough away. A tornado's destructive reach starts at the down draft on the sides. Not to far from the funnel. It's the center upward pressure in the center that tears everything apart. You can see the clouds being created like they are being sucked out of the homes due the drastic difference in pressure. Wind is made by pressure casued by the changes in temperature. It doesn't take much either.

If you have a drone, and you are using it to record a tornado, you have to fly into the tornado. It will be a bitch finding the drone. But it must be done.

For SCIENCE!
