Not sure why this is even news. Trever Reed appears to have got drunk and fought the cops but all of the sudden the FSB trumped up charges for...reasons. Konstantin Yaroshenko claimed he was framed in Libya for running drugs. Turns out he didn't run anything but that didn't stop the US from dragging him here and slapping him with a 20 year sentence for the intending to run drugs but had no intention of running any actual drugs because....reasons?
“ The US detained Mr Yaroshenko in Liberia in 2010, accusing him of smuggling cocaine and knowing that some of the drugs were intended for distribution in the US.”
That part really irks me.
Seems like it’s prisoner swap for people who were detained in other countries for bs reasons. Tit for tat
I cannot get a consistent story on Yaroshenko but the running theme is he "intended" to run drugs but didn't actually run the drugs. Maybe he was hired believing he was flying something else but got made the patsy. The story on the American is even more suspect. He gets arrested for being a jackass while drunk and the FSB takes a sudden interest in him? Bullshit. My guess is the dumb bastard probably punched a cop and I am sure in Russia they don't take too kindly to that and being a foreigner they nailed him with the max amount of jail time. The Russian guy is probably innocent and was convicted of being at the wrong place at the wrong time.
Even worse than that - 'He was reportedly told when he was hired that some of the drugs were bound for the US, with the rest headed for Africa or Europe. This smuggling operation was part of an undercover Drug Enforcement Administration operation.' So the DEA 'told him some of the drugs would go to the US' and then charged him with it. Fck this world ...
