Boiled eggs

submitted by ForgottenMemes to Food 2.2 yearsFeb 20, 2022 23:30:46 ago (+4/-0)     (Food)

Is there a trick to getting the eggs so the shells come off nicely? Mine usually get stuck and make a huge mess.

Cool down in ice water.

Like actual ice? I just run the tap on cold.

Ice,this shrinks the egg guts down and pulls away from the shell.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot.

It is NOT a perfect solution but I think you will be pleased with the result.Good luck.

Ya it’s the rapid change that causes the egg & shell to contract at different speeds.

Tap the side of the egg till it cracks then roll it along its side under your hand until you've broken the she'll all the way around. Then peel. Chef here I've peeled approximately 1.37 million eggs. And the ice water.

After they boil, dump out the hot water and fill with cold water and ice. Change it a few times. Then peel!

I boil the water first, then put the eggs in. Have to be careful not to splash or break the eggs. Some do crack due to the shock.

Then I rinse in cold water until cool to the touch.

If you still fail to get easily peeled eggs after trying the other solutions, you may just try a cheap egg cooker instead. It steams the eggs instead of immersing them in water, but they're very easy to peel.

I got one for my girlfriend at one point since I was sick of her mangling the fucking eggs.

Love this guy. They have his show on a local TV station. Ran across it years ago and it's always a good time/laugh watching this guy.

Crack them with a knife after boiling most of the way. It lets water get inbetween the layers. Easy to peel.

I've always had terrible luck and no tricks have ever worked for me. The best I've found is using a spoon to get under the shell and peel off the rest of the shell

TIL everyone boils eggs a little different.

This is how I do it:
Bring water to a boil
Add in 1/4 cup of vinegar
Slowly and gently lower the eggs into the boiling water/vinegar
Here's where preference comes in. Boil for 8 minutes for soft boiled 12 minutes for hard boiled.
When time is up, put the eggs in an ice water bath
Shells should peel right off.

no.

here's what you do.

cold water with at least 1" go cover.

poke a hole in the bottom / fat end of the egg.

bring to simmer, not a hard boil, simmer 6 minutes for a jam consistency inside.

take out, put into 50/50 ice water mix. leave a few minutes.

for a different method you can bring to a strong boil, cover, take off the heat and leave for 8 minutes.same treatment with ice water.

The fresher the eggs the harder it is to peel them

Don't over cook them. Put them in a cold bath immediately after cooking. Crack the large end of the shell, then peel the shell off from large end to small end. Doing so under water helps a lot.

Put salt into the water. Shells will come off easily.

I was once told that older eggs tend to stick more. Don't know if that's true or not but I try to make sure they're fresh.
I discovered this video a few years back and I will say that her method makes perfect boiled eggs. Skip the Deviled Eggs part if you just want boiled eggs.

Put eggs in pot. Cover w water. Bring to boil. From that point boil 8 minutes. Place eggs in ice bath to halt cooking (I just put them in a bowl and in the fridge). Peel when cool.

I boil exactly 7 mins. They are soft boiled and better in noodles. Take em out run under cool water. Peel em. Perfext everytime. Hard boiled is nasty anyways.

I kinda like HB eggs. You can boil a dozen eggs, and put 1 or 2 in your lunch for a quick and easy protein snack. A dash of salt or a little mustard

Yep, I tend to keep a bowl full in the fridge for this reason.
