That's a bunch of bullshit, I live in Florida and were basically the fire ant capitol of the US. I've managed to control the fire ants in my backyard for years.

The fire ants really put a dent in the tick population. As a child coming to the ranch I own now, every time we came home we had to inspect our bodies (especially the groin) for ticks. I have not seen one in twenty years now since I owned the place. The ants came up through South Texas and passed through the Hill Country in the '90's.

funny you should mention ticks 'cos just 15mins ago I said to the wife: "I've got a tick bite". The varmints here are the size of half a pin head but boy do they pack a punch - itching hell and the best way I've found to deal with the problem is apply hot air from a hair-dryer to the bite a couple of times. It provides the relief of scratching without the skin damage.
