Rebuttal...

1. Huey Long was killed because of his influence passing a bill that effectively removed Judge Benjamin Pavy from power. Almost immediately after the bill was passed Long was shot by Carl Weiss, the son-in-law of Pavy.
2. FDR was running for his second term in 1936. He was wildly popular. Average incumbants almost always win. Long was far from being "poised to win".
3. We need an isolationist president. But domestic policy is more influential on our day-to-day lives than foreign policy. And Long ran on the premise that FDR's wealth redistribution ideas weren't radical enough.
