I had a local mechanic stop by my house and help me take the tires off a car because they were on too tight for hand tools. No charge.

Now for the flip side. When I was in nursing school I briefly worked for a place called THINK Direct Marketing.

They mail out flyers encouraging people to call and 'register' for a $Million Dollar Sweepstakes!

When they call they are 'encouraged' to subscribe to several magazines. You would not believe the desperation people experience and are talked into this bullshit.

They convince themselves that if they just buy 3 subscriptions that theyre gonna win.

After a couple of soul sucking weeks I walked into the lunch room and saw 2 guys laughing about selling a 91 year old woman 10 years worth of 10 magazines.

That was the final straw. I quit and called the Tampa Bay Times and told them this story.

They called me back and I repeated the story to a couple people. They never went with the story. THINK Direct pays for a Help Wanted ad every day for years.

I hate scammers who target the elderly. Like those phone scammers who say there's a problem with your insurance or with your computer or whatever. I am nice to call-center people, I mean that's their job, but scammers get the full brunt of every slur I can throw their way

My problem with shit like this is how fake it feels, not in the sense it didn't happen but in the sense that if it really did happen, its intentions are hollow and empty and fake. Why not do this WITHOUT notifying the world via the internet with some cheesy invoice???
