Spoiled rich son of Rockefellers takes time after college to travel around the world collecting art from unexplored places. His interest was in New Guinea, where he spent time getting to know the natives. According to the story he got pulled underneath the tide just offshore, washed up in a strange area where he was supposedly killed and eaten. There is some evidence of this, though there is a possibility it didn't happen. What did happen is he never showed up again and disappeared. The tribe that supposedly ate him would dispose of human bodies after eating them so there's no undisputable evidence that it happened, but the trail leads to a tribe and then disappears. Based on his previous actions, the tides and his knowledge of the locals it is believed he ended up in a cookpot but since there's no concrete evidence people still wonder.

I should add the correction that this happened in Papua New Quinea, not Equatorial New Guinea where the nigger above came from. My bad. They are still third world shitholes
