Storing beans

submitted by 1Icemonkey to preppers 3.6 yearsSep 30, 2021 18:41:56 ago (+8/-0)     (preppers)

I just ordered some beans, three types, black, pinto and kidney, dried of course. They are coming in bulk and I will vacuum seal 2lb bags with desiccant packets and seal them in buckets. Should hold for years.

Mylar bags. Fill them up toss in an oxygen absorbent (not moisture) and use the wifes hair iron to seal the bag. Put the bag in a Food grade air tight 5 gallon bucket first before filling it so that it fits the shape of the bucket and has less air at the top. Give it a food grade oxygen absorbed and heat seal the Mylar bag, then close the airtight lid.

Store beans, rice, other grains in bulk this way.

Your guys are expensive. I paid 1.68 a pound, with shipping. I don’t pay shipping. Ever. But in this case, the numbers worked out. $120 order cost $80 to ship. Whatever. Got 120 lbs of beans coming.

Get some rice, too. White stores longer than brown.

Rice is next. Lower in food value, but still worth it.

Looks like one can get 30 years with extremely careful storage. This seems to be a decent article on bean storage:

Yeah, sealed containers with oxygen absorbers is what the Mormons taught me, and the Utah-niggers know about prepping.
