Red dot + iron sight co-witness FTW

Came here to see/say this.

Several years ago at CHL quals, the crusty RO (retired LEO with 20+ yrs of instruction) was asking for scores when a guy calls out a perfect. The RO walks over, checks the target and says “…damn, so it is.”

RO later admitted during the classroom portion of the training that though some had gotten close, none had ever scored a perfect target in all his years of running range qualifications.

The guy had a co-witnessed red dot and the RO started reluctantly pushing them as a viable alternative to the class, confessing he hadn’t personally seen the utility up until that moment

It's that or irons with tritium. I don't want a lamp on my rifle when shooting in the dark.

I too, blast indiscriminately into shadows

shadows
Is that what you call a group of niggers?

The smell of shit permeated the air as the shadow of niggers approached.

Touché

That's why we run with 30rd mags

NVGs also exist

Tritium is the bare minimum for aiming under NODs but they aren’t ideal (“blobs”) but some people can shoot very well after training with them extensively

Red dots might be superior but the iron sights are going to be there after batteries die or addon sights break. You should spend good money on good iron sights and master them

iron-sights should be the go-to standard in an apocalyptic situation we're about to experience

There’s something fucking incredibly satisfying looking through tritium sights in the middle of the night, practical utility be damned. That said, a TLR-1 or similar is a must for a nightstand pistol

There is a method to light use — essentially short bursts with randomized movements — which helps to disorient and confuse while aiding in positive identification of threats when room clearing. The caveat is that this practice is only useful in an enclosed building like a home or office. If outside in the open, light discipline is priority, especially on flat or exposed terrain and should only be used in the event of a known tactical advantage.

Remaining static with the light on in either scenario is an excellent way to get dead fast

What about laser? Compared to red dots?

[ - ] Battlefat [op] 4 points 3.6 yearsSep 29, 2021 19:43:08 ago (+4/-0)

Unless you’re anticipating non-conventional shooting positions (under beds, barricades, vehicles) then a laser is basically a homing beacon straight to your position. Red dots are superimposed and not projected so no downrange signature, plus, higher end models are useful for targeting under NODs which is practically impossible or tedious with irons.

An IR laser on the other hand is very useful, but you’d probably be using your pistol as a secondary weapon at that point

What about phased plasma rifle in 40-watt range?

Turbolasers are better, somehow. I guess they spin the photons around or something.

Double-barreled tokamak, all the way
