All over town Brown.

I have wanted this unit for years and i finally found one for a okay price.

WOW!

Man, these are so cool. You honestly have to hear it to believe it. Close your eyes and you would swear you are listening to a standard 5.1 surround sound system. THE REAR CHANNELS ACTUALL COME FROM BEHIND YOU. SO COOL.

It has a grill, the picture just shows underneath.

How is your night going?

I just got mine in the mail!

Ebay, less than $180. These were new in 2007, selling for $1800.

Now I just need to figure out where to put it - downstairs in the main room where wife won;t know how to operate it? Upstairs to replace the surround sound system? Or outside by the pool? Not sure I want this equipment to have to deal with outside humidity.

You bought a sound projector? What model? Did it come with the calibration mic (very much needed to set it up).

Yeah!!! I am going to hook it up tomorrow. No, no remote or calibration mic. No wonder so cheap, lol!

model; YSP-4000

That is a great model but you 100% need the mic to set it up properly. It will cost you 60 bucks and you can only find one on Ebay from the UK. You can set them up manually but it is extremely difficult to do it properly. There are a TON on settings and metrics that need to be put in. You also cannot use a different mic, it wont work.

Also make sure you factory reset it before using it. Hold Input on the front of the unit and then press power while holding it. Use the press the down key on the remote until you get to the "factory preset" option. hit enter, it will say "cancel" hit right on the remote and it will say "reset". now press the power off on the front of the unit (not remote) . You will know you did it correctly if the volume is at 30 when you turn it on.

Without the mic you can tinker and get it set up pretty nicely if you know what you are doing. Download the manual and take your time. You will be amazed at what it can do if you are patient and do it right. Also definitely hook up a sub, it is necessary.

3rd button up from the bottom center on the remote says test. This is very important and you will need to use this. Press test and then change channels by pressing down. This scrolls through front left, center, right and the rear channels. You will have to go back and forth between this and the beam adjustment menu to dial it in.

That is the same model i have, its amazing. Let me know what you think when you have it set up. Take your time, be patient and get your tape measure ready. Let me know if you need help. . . I may have a different account soon as this one is almost dead.

oh shit... no remote! you cant do shit with it man. I have a remote I will send to you if you want. at the bare minimum you need the factory remote to get this set up. Its useless without it and a universal wont access the settings you need.

Order the mic and remote and don't bother hooking it up until you have those.

[ - ] ghostofvoatspast [op] 0 points 3.6 yearsOct 5, 2021 21:34:00 ago (+0/-0)

here https://ibb.co/M72L9Jn just be carful because there are some that look almost the same. Make sure it is the exact same remote. Also the only place to find the correct mic is from the UK. You have to make damn sure it is for the ysp-4000.

thanks. I pulled up the photo, an spent the extra $12 for OEM over "repro."

I will ask my UK friends to look for mic for me.

You got a good price on it so don't stress the $100+ for mic and remote. Its well worth it. You will have a soundbar that will outperform todays $1500+ flagship bars. I have demoed and owned many of them, these Yamahas are unlike anything else on the market. As you can see the build quality is also unlike any modern bar. Look up Ambeo, you will have something very comparable to them. They are the most similar to a sound projector. You are going to trip out when you get it set up and hear what it can do. Make sure to get a sub, it is critical. I'm excited for you.

Question - my TV is a 2020, newer model. Audio output is either via ARC or via Toslink. I'm not sure if this device has capability to handle either of these.

If that is your thoughts as well, is there an adapter I can use?

If I run the set top through the device, I get the sound to process, but I cannot get the Smart TV functionality to send audio back to device. In other words, I can hijack the audio if the input goes through the device and then to TV, but I cannot get TV to send audio output to device.

OK, so if I understand this correctly, the TV would need to output via optical audio output into the adapter (or perhaps via HDMI output, if that works), and then either an analog L/R or HDMI out to the device.

I feel like an FM modulator would be prudent.

Bro i think you are way way way out of your league with this sound projector, its a complicated device. I'll try to help. What devices do you have hooked to your TV (Firestick etc.)

What are you using to drive it?

[ - ] ghostofvoatspast [op] 0 points 3.7 yearsSep 26, 2021 16:31:29 ago (+0/-0)

my friend you must learn about this amazing device. They cost almost $2,000 new but can be found for next to nothing now. They will still destroy the very best modern soundbars on the market. The trend has moved to small think sleek bars which pale in comparison to these monsters. I'm telling you, they are amazing. Look on your local craigslist for "yamaha sound projector" or "yamaha ysp" if you find one buy it! info https://www.digitaltrends.com/speaker-reviews/yamaha-ysp-4000-digital-sound-projector-review/

[ - ] pickingrinninspittin 0 points 3.7 yearsSep 26, 2021 19:17:09 ago (+0/-0)

I get your enthusiasm but my question stands: what are you using to drive it? Does it require a expensive, high end sound card or amplifier, or do you just plug it into your PC? I know nothing about audio beyond the typical speakers and headphones that most people use.

[ - ] ghostofvoatspast [op] 0 points 3.7 yearsSep 26, 2021 19:41:33 ago (+0/-0)

BRO- its a sound project aka fancy soundbar for a TV. It has 40 x 1.5" sound beam drivers and each driver has its own individual amp! There is also 2 x 5.25" woofers on their own separate amp. The unit is an amp or receiver and speakers in one package. It needs nothing external to power or drive it. It even has a legitimate subwoofer out so you can hook a real home theatre sub to it.

to set it up you place a provided microphone at your listening position, it is hooked up to the unit. The sound projector runs a series of tones and audio signals to calibrate the sound beams specific to your room. It also equalizes the audio, sets the individual channel levels and tunes the audio for your room.

After this is completed you will have legitimate 5.0 surround sound from the sound projector. It will sound just like you have a front left and right speaker at each side of your room. A center channel speaker and rear left and right speaker. You will be enveloped in sound. It does this by bouncing sound waves precisely off of your walls. Like i said, its one of the coolest pieces of tech i have ever seen and it works great. Its a legitimate home theatre from a single soundbar.

It sounds better than todays $1500 flagship atmos soundbars and being that these units are old (2005-2007) you can find them for $100-$300 even though they cost upwards of $2000 new and will utterly destroy anything on the market today. The drawback is they are very big and heavy compared to a modern soundbar...to me that is a good thing.

Hey thanks for the informed reply. I checked the local market and there's a YSP-CU3300 for $80 but it's pretty banged up. I'll keep my eye open and see what turns up. You definitely have me intrigued. Cheers!

[ - ] ghostofvoatspast [op] 0 points 3.7 yearsSep 26, 2021 21:35:58 ago (+0/-0)

no problem. that isn't one you would want anyway as it is just a normal soundbar. i guess they use ysp in other models as well. you need to make sure its a "sound projector" with an array of speakers like the ones in the picture.
