In a recent working paper, two economists Alexander Billy and Michael Packard have purportedly estimated the effects of the refugees on crime in Miami. They find evidence of an increase in both violent and property crime. They argue costs were relatively minor and driven by a combination of factors including poor oversight by authorities. They conclude the rise in crime could have been avoided and does not justify current fears surrounding migration"
