Had the pleasure of shooting one of these.

Cartridges had the (Reichsadler)[https://infogalactic.com/info/Reichsadler] stamped on to the bottom of the brass

The Kar. Man, what a beauty. Accurate and devastating.

Not long afterward, I saw some ammo for it become available from a well-known distributor. I'd had such a great experience with the rifle and heard that the ammo was hard to come by, so I immediately tried to place an order only to find it had sold out.

At the time, I was surprised there was such a following. Found voat a few decades later and now I know why :)

It was the ammo I was trying to buy for the owner as thanks for showing me a good time. Sold out in a hot minute.

You're dead-on about the reputation of Mausers. If I end up doing a full-on custom build from the action up, that's more than likely where I'll start.

You can still find high-quality Mauser actions in great condition if you look hard enough.
