What ever happened to referendums? We need one along the lines of a state of emergency cannot be longer than 7 days (or something) with no extensions. Really if I would say a day but I've added some wriggle room.

Why didn't any of those other people facing totalitarian oppression under communist regimes think of this? If only they had gathered enough scribbles on a piece of paper, or enough clicks on a website, the tyrants who were exploiting them would have just given up all their power and influence, and nobody would have gotten sent to the gulags or starved to death.
