I shit you not, there was a time when the clocks in your home didn't synchronize with an atomic clock constantly, when you had to periodically verify that they were showing the correct time.

Locally, there was a number for time and temperature. As the years went on, you got a weather report for the next few days, too.

Remember when there were all those gimmicky phone lines like 1-900-hot-girl and 1-900-Joke and they all cost 5 dollars a minute and kids called them up all the time and then their parents had to pay $300 phone bills?

They had 1-800 numbers too that would play a "sexy" message and tell you the 1-900 number to call or something else to continue to the paying part. We would try to come up with 7-letter phrases that might be used. 1-800-HOT-GIRLS and stuff like that. Gay ones too, like 1-800-BIG-COCKS.

One of the neighborhood kids was over our house when we were goofing around doing it, and later told his father about it who was in the middle of divorcing his mother. The kids father tried to say (in the divorce case) that because the kids mother let him hang out at our house my mom was a bad parent for letting that happen & the kids mother was a bad parent for letting him visit.

My mom was pissed, but not at us, we were just being boys. It was harmless fun.

We knew better than to dial a 1-900 number though. They used to play commercials with 1-900 numbers to call late at night, probably where we got the idea from.
