Find the wasp nest and destroy. Kill the problem at the source. Any survivors will be too busy building a new nest to trouble your hive. You might have to track the wasps to find it.
Im not a keeper...yet. However, since Im interested Ive been reading up over time.
I don't think there is really a way to stop them. You could put up pop bottle wasp traps to catch some of them but others will still get to the hive.
I saw a vid once where the bees began forming clusters around the invading hornets and through vibration essentially cooked the hornets. So it would seem the bees will take care of them on their own.

I'm sure there are botanicals out there that will deter wasps and not affect bees.
Geranium attracts good insects and stops wasps I think.
