Well, mostly because nobody is stopping them.

As to the purpose, the agenda is to abolish private land ownership.

All but the most wealthy will eventually be forced to sell or foreclose. Coupled with the scheduled hyperinflation, almost nobody will be able to afford to keep or buy land. The hyperwealthy and the banks will be able to acquire everything. Or perhaps "the government" will step in. Same result.

However it plays out, the middle and upper-middle class will be destroyed. And replaced by a new serf-class, perpetually owing the owner-class, for being allowed to exist.

the MAJORITY of rental properties have mortgages, but you are correct to assume many are bought outright with inheritance as hard assets to hold value, but there are only major tax advantages on your first home, not other homes you buy to lease out.
