Remains of piglet from 2,700 years ago support the theory that ancient Israelites occasionally did eat pork, and the biblical taboo on this animal was only first observed in Second Temple era, Israeli archaeologists say

Israeli archaeologists have unearthed the complete skeleton of a piglet in a place and time where you wouldn't expect to find pork remains: a Jerusalem home dating to the First Temple period.

The 2,700-year-old porcine remains were found crushed by large pottery vessels and a collapsed wall during excavations in the so-called City of David, the original nucleus of ancient Jerusalem.

As hilarious as this is, I'm not sure one piglet can be taken as evidence of this: Jerusalem was a crossroads and I'm sure non-jews were living there and transiting through there with livestock.

An intact carcass under a fallen wall sounds like it could be the result of the 168 BC attack by the Greek king Antiochus IV Epiphanes who terrorised, tortured, mutilated, and murdered the citizens, and defiled the city and temple in any way he could, particularly using pigs.

I looked it up. It was part of the continuous civil war following alexander the great's death. He tried to reunite Egypt with the greek portion of the empire, but the ptolmies hung in by the skin of their teeth. On his way home there was a revolt by the jews, he put it down.

Allegedly he provoked the revolt and the jews did nothing wrong ever, then he persecuted them for no reason. I have my doubts.
