I still remember the time in Jr high when a young lady rushed into our metal shop to grab the teacher who knowingly walked over to the tool cabinet and grabbed a pair of dikes to cut the needle out of the machine. After he came back and told us tough teenage boys, we all gagged with horror at the thought.

Oh that's great awful! The zipper foot on the sewing machine with all its openness gives me nightmares I'll do the same thing.

Don't be afraid of your sewing machine! I've known a bunch of people who couldn't get started because they were intimidated by it.

Sage advice, but I was exactly one of those people, and I didn't grow up in a sewing house either. A few years back, I made it my mission to make that machine my bitch. Not only did I conquer it, it has become my passion, sometimes my salvation, and it makes me money. To anyone who's on the edge about getting or using their machine, stop waiting - - you are missing out on the joy of creation.

Back in ye old days I liked to fiddle with things mindlesslly when talking on the old landline; rubber bands, a ball, pens, keys... one time a stapler... I accidentally stapled my thumb and had to silent scream so I didn't have to explain to the person on the phone that I'm a fucking retard.

Reminds me of a call I had with my gf once. We were chatting away then she loudly yelled "Ow," and explained she'd stubbed her toe on a doorstop. I teased her a bit for being a wimp, but I felt awful about it later when it turned out she'd somehow managed to break her toe.

We were due to go on holiday that weekend, we still went but I had to give her my shoes so she could move around. Her own were far too tight.

I'd've given up sewing if I hadn't learned to use a machine. The difference in time is immense.

I was using a propane electric nail gun one day and hit a knot below the surface of the board. The nail bent backwards and came back into my finger. I was working late in an empty house and decided to call it a day. The next morning the home owner called my boss all upset. Apparently I had left a trail of blood from the living room to the bathroom and some blood in the bathroom sink!

Kek. When I was a kid staying in a hotel I was put in a room with my sister and cousins. I got a top bunk, which I hated because I was always afraid of rolling out. That night I did roll out and I went looking for my mother and father's room. Didn't find it but I managed to leave a trail of blood all over the walls and floor during my wanderings. Creeped the shit out of some guests.

Yeah, I "wutted" when I read he did that. Whenever I was taught about removing things like arrows or fishhooks I was always told to clip it off then pull it through the way it was going.

Actually they taught us to bind it up and go get a doctor to do it, but if we had to do it ourselves we were supposed to continue pulling it through.

I accidentally hooked a friend fishing one time. Told him to hold still and I'd remove it carefully. He freaked out and yanked it so hard he took a (small) chunk of flesh with it.

Oof. I remember some guy I was talking to saying he used to work on a long liner. He saw a guy hook himself through the finger once and just bandaid it up and keep going. He took it to the doctor later to actually remove.

Aw man, I cringed internally when I read that. I've never punched my own ticket like that, but I've had some close calls.
