We sometimes wear it while listening to our old records.

A of them few going back as far as a couple of original Tom Lehrer albums, including a 10". Several 1950's jazz.

Vinyl albums are bound to go up in value in the long run. (unless, WW3.2), They definitely sound better. I can do side by side comparison of vinyl vs cd. Hi treble like cymbals and snare drum get lost in the digital sauce. You can't tell what you're hearing.
On vinyl, you hear all the nuance that's totally lost on cd 's.
If you have the wherewithall, to do a comparison, listen to the same cut on vinyl vs cd. You'll hear a distinct difference.
Prepare for war first , of course.

I have never left vinyl. I would record to cassettes from vinyl in the 80s. I did not get a CD player until 97 or 98, when they could be had for $19.

I switched to digital its portability around that time, but still would hit used record stores.

New finds: I found the first solo album by David Crosby. Surprisingly good. Amazingly good, even. Found a Doors Quadraphonically recorded album, but I have not set up my tuner for quadraphonic, so it's not anything special yet. Both were $2.50.

The deals and steals are great. I found an old Chinese record at the flea market of a vocalist I like. Picked it up for a buck and when I looked online found it was going for $120.

Idk if my tuner can be set up for quadraphonic. What tuner do u have? What are your go to records to listen to right now?

I have an old 70s Kenwood tuner. Stainless steel and wood casing. Nothing digital, board still has capacitors and resistors. The matching turntable just got old - started playing at about 32 instead of 33 1/3 rpms. So it worked, but not all the way. Replaced the belt, figuring ti just got old, but it was the motor just turning 5% too slow.

The tuner has A and B speakers = 4 each. I had to get a newer turntable for the time being until I get a nice used one. It has to output via stereo output into old school amp input (like you would plug into your electric guitar.)

My older brother bought a house a few years ago, and the old owners left a 200+ vinyl collection and the turn table. I asked him for it, and he laughed, "Fuck you, it's mine!!!" He spent the first 3 months there alone while his kids finished school year in old town, and those albums became his only entertainment.

Do you feel the difference at 32? I feel as long as it is stable it should be fine no?

A lot of Elvis. Probably every Elvis album imaginable. A lot of early country, Hank Sr., Porter Wagoner type stuff, that gospely/yodely stuff. Early George Harrison solo stuff.

Fuck, holy crap, I wish I had either a Kenwood or a Marantz tuner. The 70s was The Golden Age of Electronics. They're still working now, and producing brilliant, crystal sound. I couldn't afford any of that then, so I guess I'll have to buy one restored on eBay.

I'm fucking old. I still have all of the albums I bought since the 60s, and I still play them, even though some records only last 15-20 minutes each side and need to be turned over and don't sound as brilliant as digital music. I don't fucking care. Vinyl has a live and vibrancy of its own, particularly with old jazz records from the 40s and 50s, and the "cleaned up" remastering of them I've heard also remove the "warmth" that vinyl brings.

Mostly stuff that hasn't been remastered for CD. My early listening in the 70s was classical, especially medieval and renaissance, and English isle folk music, but not limited to that. One of my favorites is a brass performance of Gabrielli's antiphonal music. I have a few operas I particularly like, one "Carmen", and one "Le nozzi di Figaro" both with performers I consider the best I've heard. But I have some 70s albums I haven't been able to find. Ever heard of the The Sutherland Brothers and Quiver?

Medieval and Renaissance sounds fun, I would like to get some of that. Also looking for Baltic pagan/folk records.

Holy shit. I think I have that one. I wasn't impressed with the Moog interpretation of Bolero at the time, but that was 40 years ago.

I'll regather tomorrow and look through my collection. I think the recording I have of Carmen was conducted by Solti. I don't have any Baltic music, but I'm a HUGE fan of Bulgarian and Romanian folk.

Do you remember an old record label called Caedmon? One of my favorites. I'll get a list of other labels that produced notable works I love.

It looks that way. I see the name Andrew Kazdin on both records, so I'm sure the Bolero on Moog is the same recording. I bought my album in 1977, and it was issued in 1973. I think the one you have is a reissue of just the Bolero. It's an interesting concept, contrasting the orchestral version with the electronic one.

Walter Carlos' electronic versions of classical music was, I think, the high point of this sort of thing in the 70s. There were others, notably Isao Tomita, who did some very beautiful and imaginative work, but I think Carlos did it best. That's not to diminish Tomita -- his version of Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition" and Stravinsky's "The Firebird" were both excellent.

But yeah, I agree with you on Carlos' tranny stuff ... makes it hard for me to appreciate his work knowing that he's mentally deranged.

Wow awesome that you brought up Tomita. I just picked up "pictures" on vinyl for a buck on a whim. Saw the Moog on the back cover and took a chance, definitely liked it. But it is truly just alright, nothing fantastic for me.

But now I have you are what you is by Zappa spinning behind me, enjoying the work day. Hope you are too
