can you tell me what this is? The flowers are 8" wide.

Judging by the buds, it looks like a type of lily. Looking at the flower though it looks just like the amaryllis. The picture I posted, the flowers are that size, but it budded differently.

I got a few amaryllis bulbs last year, and when they bloomed, I pollinated them. It only worked on one flower, but I got a few seeds to sprout, so I'll have several more amaryllis bulbs in a few years.

This is my first attempt. One of my wife's patients gave us a couple bulbs, and this is the only one that took off.

The three I received didn't all bloom at the same time. One of them looked like that one on the right for a long time before it finally burst into bloom.

I just took a pic of the ones in front because they look a little better than the others. Most of these just planted themselves where they are like weeds.

That's how she grew. It probably takes a beefy stem to hold up two eight inch flowers long enough to get pollinated.

Yes...yes you're right. I am experienced with the female of the species whereas you...you married your high school sweetheart and have only known one woman, in the biblical sense, in your life. Fair enough. Nothing wrong with that except one wouldn't get a deep understanding of what makes the creatures tick.
