It died before that. I rage quit (reddit vernacular) in early 2015 after like 7 cake days. It had been going downhill for a couple of years by that point.
Preventing r/the_donald from reaching front page. Censoring the sub. Removing mods. Editing those users comments. Automatically deleting any comment that even mentions or links to the_donald. Then banning the entire sub completely.

^^^ That right there is the problem. Users like that. Reddit went to shit waaayyyyy way before 2016. I completely left in 2016 and I was on the back end of the exodus.2 years prior there had been a push to leave with users writing a script to wipe your history and leave a fuck you reddit message in place of all your posts in it's place.
