In 1964 a joint South African / Royal Navy expedition dropped a survey team onto Bouvet Island by helicopter, they came across a shallow lagoon in the center of which sat a half sunken abandoned boat described as a “whaler or ship’s lifeboat,” no one had any idea of where it could have come from or how it got there.
