I used to make bolos out of regular electric wire with a couple of stones tied to the ends. This is a very effective self-defense weapon     (youtube.com)

Just handmade bolos are incredible. You swing them around your head like a sling and throw them and they naturally spread apart and they will wrap around whatever they encounter and tie it up really well. And normal electrical wire and I'm talking the small stuff not even electrical cords split into but the colored wire that you see often inside of the cables and things is incredibly strong intention and it just works really well.

UUuguuuughghhhhhhhh ARG FUCK Just bought a laptop on ebay, I explicitly asked if there were dead pixels before sending and it arrives and there is a huge patch of dead pixels     (technology)

I filmed myself opening the package, and turning it on and got it from open to dead pixels in one video. This is such a colossal waste of time. Also the battery is so completely dead that I'm not even sure the machine can accept a battery. Nothing about the battery was mentioned at all in the listing. Otherwise the laptop is indeed quite amazing, high end and in excellent condition.

I seriously have other important things to do tonight that now won't have been gotten to. Like that my mode of transportation died last night and every day I don't address that is like $30 in traveling fees. Or that if I don't get a working laptop in like 4 days max I might have to go unpaid until I get one.

Court Rules FCC’s Universal Service Fund Unconstitutional     (www.telecompetitor.com)

https://www.telecompetitor.com/court-rules-fccs-universal-service-fund-unconstitutional/

Earlier today, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans ruled that the framework through which the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) established the Universal Service Fund (USF) is unconstitutional.

The ruling stated that the USF is essentially a tax paid by consumers via telecommunications companies. While Congress gave the FCC authority to levy taxes — in Section 254 of the U.S. Code — the court believes such delegation of power does not meet the Supreme Court’s precedents.

Long ago this idea came to me after watching Halloween 3: Season of the Witch (the best Halloween movie). Like stuxnet, a malware program which could cause a phone's battery to explode. Technology is getting creepy. Remember Anne Heche? That's why I would never own a Tesla. I feel like that's giving jews a free ticket to murder you.

My $300 Sony top headphones plastic just broke. Other Sony users are reporting the same problem. I have also Bose headphones that I can twist as much as I want and nothing happens, because the plastic is high quality. My advice is to avoid Sony headphones at all and read many reviews before buying headphones.

People need to understand time machines exist and some people have them. It's no more amazing than splitting the tiny atom was. Someone figured out how to do it and they have it and that's that. It doesn't change everything but it changes some things. Get used to the idea.     (technology)

https://www.techspot.com/news/105429-us-officials-consider-government-intervention-if-intel-cannot.html

The company stands to receive billions from the CHIPS Act, but Intel leadership says it's taking too long

We've seen this movie before: It's been a while since we've heard the phrase, "Too big to fail." While the US government has learned to avoid that language because of its negative connotations, that is not stopping it from considering running the same end-game play from 2008 – using taxpayer-funded subsidies to keep a large corporation afloat. This time around, it's Intel.

https://www.theverge.com/2024/11/18/24300033/doj-google-monopoly-remedies-search-chrome-android-ai

The Department of Justice is planning to ask for Google’s antitrust trial judge to force the company to sell off its >Chrome browser after the judge ruled the company has maintained an illegal search monopoly, reports Bloomberg.

Chrome is the world’s most widely used browser, and the government’s lawyers have argued that its use in cross->promoting Google’s products is one of the things limiting available channels and incentives for competition to grow.
