UUuguuuughghhhhhhhh ARG FUCK Just bought a laptop on ebay, I explicitly asked if there were dead pixels before sending and it arrives and there is a huge patch of dead pixels

submitted by CoronaHoax to technology 9 monthsJul 23, 2024 20:21:31 ago (+5/-1)     (technology)

I filmed myself opening the package, and turning it on and got it from open to dead pixels in one video. This is such a colossal waste of time. Also the battery is so completely dead that I'm not even sure the machine can accept a battery. Nothing about the battery was mentioned at all in the listing. Otherwise the laptop is indeed quite amazing, high end and in excellent condition.

I seriously have other important things to do tonight that now won't have been gotten to. Like that my mode of transportation died last night and every day I don't address that is like $30 in traveling fees. Or that if I don't get a working laptop in like 4 days max I might have to go unpaid until I get one.

Sounds like a very typical ebay transaction. Better than some.

Well it ain't over yet! They have to accept the return with out bullshit. I looked up replacement screens and I am totally willing to do that, actually did it for the last laptop I bought (which is why I now ask), however there is literally no screens in the 4k resolution for this laptop anymore. And the 2k resolution screens wouldn't even attach because the pin count on the cable is different. So I have no choice but to return it and have my money tied up and almost certainly bullshit for like 4 weeks lol.

Oh, that's great!
I got so screwed with my last purchase t hat I promised not to use ebay anymore. And I haven't.

Looks like I might have to in order to find a replacement side mirror for the car, though...

There are a ton of those on Amazon. Check to see if they have your model.

I found a TON of listings claiming to, and then none of them were right.
I am looking for the one without the turn signal on it; all of them have the turn signal. Pretty sure I'd have to splice the wiring in some hacky way to get the mirror controls to work on that. It has a different connector.

Gotta keep looking. It's not THAT rare of a car. In fact they seem ridiculously common! Maybe they all broke!

I think I've had luck asking ebay sellers who were selling parts from the same car if they had the part I was looking for

I wanted to be 'good with electronics' but it was just never my thing. I'm sure you're right, some hacky fiddling with the wiring would probably be all that's needed.

I'm tired of dealing with ebay fuckers. I ordered some wheel studds and they said what I ordered will work and they are 1/2 smaller and would only go about half way into the lug nut. Not safe. I had to send'em back. Wasted a lot of my time. Probably some street shitter or bug chink non human. I think everyone on ebay should have a mark by their name telling us whose white and non-white amen

Paying up front for expensive tools is cheaper than paying for two cheap ones.

Is it still randoms selling their stuff? My impression of ebay is it's just asking for trouble.

Never buy used laptops sight unseen.

Back in the day, I used to buy used rack servers on ebay.
they were a couple years old, but still had some chooch left in them.
You could get 5 racks for $100.
If anything was wrong in them, you'd just cannibalize one for parts and BAM! 4 servers for $100 is still a good deal.
