Here's a cool project I stumbled upon last night.

Its a search instance that runs on localhost. Installs by copy pasting the git clone installation instruction. I routed its queries through SPN.

He is right. Cost of milk protein falls 10x. Dairy industry gone. Huge land becomes available. Power costs near zero. Transportation (cars go to near zero as Uber costs 10x less than your car.     (youtu.be)

This guy's been right about major predictions in the past. Won't you understand that they can now make milk protein with the same yeast bacteria that they've been making insulin with for 10 years and the cost of that milk protein is going to be 10 times less than the production of protein and every industry becomes 10 times less and the dairy market can't survive that so production of dairy cows will go to near zero that whole industry will collapse they'll be huge amounts of land available because that industry has collapsed he goes on and talks about how solar continues to fall in price and energy cost will be near zero now this of course excludes utility monopolies and that sort of thing but we're talking about the raw cost of the energy and then he talks about the cars how people don't understand that Uber is not just going to be competitive with cars but the unmanned vehicles that will take you around are going to be so much cheaper than almost no one is going to justify buying a car again. I mean sure wealthy will always have cars but the majority of people were buying a car buying it from necessity and they're trying to buy a car they can afford and Uber's going to be 10 times cheaper than that so they're not going to be buying cars.

This is a BIG homelab, using mostly consumer-grade equipment with a few real pieces I bought at a discount. Still ironing bugs out here and there.

Video 8 by Sony is the proof that Big Tech are idiots     (technology)

In the XX century there were many video cassette formats.

The most popular three were:

Video 2000 by Philips.

Betamax by Sony.

VHS by JVC.

All three had bad resolution and were huge. Also, the Video 2000 by Philips was the most retarded video cassette, because you had to switch sides to watch movies, like with music cassettes.

Sony invented a perfect video cassette, Video 8. It was of the small size like music cassettes and had better video resolution than anybody else.

Guess what? The Big Tech companies voted for VHS by JVC to become the standard video cassette instead of the Video 8 by Sony for no technical reason. They did it just because.

Recall is Microsoft’s key to unlocking the future of PCs / Microsoft’s groundbreaking new AI-powered tool can search and recall anything you’ve seen or done on your PC like a personal historian.     (www.theverge.com)

https://www.theverge.com/2024/5/20/24159258/microsoft-recall-ai-explorer-windows-11-surface-event

Microsoft’s launching Recall for Copilot Plus PCs, a new Windows 11 tool that keeps track of everything you see and do on your computer and, in return, gives you the ability to search and retrieve anything you’ve done on the device.

The scope of Recall, which Microsoft has internally called AI Explorer, is incredibly vast — it includes logging things you do in apps, tracking communications in live meetings, remembering all websites you’ve visited for research, and more. All you need to do is perform a “Recall” action, which is like an AI-powered search, and it’ll present a snapshot of that period of time that gives you context of the memory.

These are $50 Coral Dual Edge TPU boards, on $30 m.2 carriers, in a quad m.2 card. Total cost ~ $420. These will be used for automatic hilighting of unusual events on my security cameras. If you're interested in this sort of thing I'll post more details on how to get this sort of thing going.

Edit: Miscalculated, looks like this setup will actually do 32 tera-ops. ^^;

Beware, this may need unusual hardware and may not work on all mobos. I'll post specific details if people are interested. Alternatively they can put single carriers in standard m.2 slots if they don't want this many.

https://blog.mozilla.org/en/mozilla/why-im-joining-mozilla-as-executive-director/

Firefox has been destroyed by incompetent management and diversity hires.

Here's them digging their grave even deeper.

“Nabiha has an exceptional understanding of how technology, humanity and broader society intersect — and how to engage with the complicated challenges and opportunities at that intersection,” said Mark Surman, Mozilla Foundation President. “Nabiha will make Mozilla a stronger, bigger, and more impactful organization, at a time when the internet needs it most.”

No, you fucking retards. The internet needs a reliable, functional browser alternative to the monopoly of Chrome and Chromium-based browsers.

AT&T paid bribes to get two major pieces of legislation passed, US gov’t says     (arstechnica.com)

https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2024/05/att-paid-bribes-to-get-two-major-pieces-of-legislation-passed-us-govt-says/

The US government has provided more detail on how a former AT&T executive allegedly bribed a powerful state lawmaker's ally in order to obtain legislation favorable to AT&T's business.

Former AT&T Illinois President Paul La Schiazza is set to go on trial in September 2024 after being indicted on charges of conspiracy to unlawfully influence then-Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan. AT&T itself agreed to pay a $23 million fine in October 2022 in connection with the alleged illegal influence campaign and said it was "committed to ensuring that this never happens again."

I guess all modern browsers automatically support htmlgz files etc. Basically just the html file gzipped, and that's it. Can be used as a direct replacement for html files.

Emulating biology to make tiny robots     (www.youtube.com)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQiLLcumqDw

The author starts making a tiny robot and gets frustrated that the smallest roller bearings he can buy are bigger than he wants. He investigates rolling contact/compliant joints, and starts over. But first he makes this video, 3D printing a giant version of the rolling contact joint so that you can see how it works, and how to thread the string.

Is this the right tech for finger joints for robot hands?

When Tesla died the government seized his papers. The scientist they went to to look at those papers to see if there was anything they could use was none other than Donald Trump's uncle who was a professor of high voltage technologies at mit. Here is his interview about that     (m.youtube.com)

The man interviewing him is also an interesting person. His name is Stan deyo d e y o. He later got very involved with the papers of Thomas Townsend Brown who invented high voltage anti-gravity devices which were flying around in the 40s and 50s and were the basis for many of the flying saucers scene then.

Stan Deyo later claim to know how to create some flying devices using it just electricity.
